The Director of eLearning provides vision and leadership to establish a strategic eLearning focus in order to expand and develop online and blended course offerings, enhance instructional delivery and promote pedagogical innovation. The Director works closely with deans, department chairs, student services, academic support, and information technology services to identify and implement technologies and best practices of eLearning for face-face and online/blended courses. The Director promotes the application of instructional design theories and course improvement methodologies to assist academic units and faculty in building and delivering quality eLearning that reflect best practices as well as accessibility, security, and copyright. Serving as liaison with relevant entities within and outside of the college, the Director conducts assessment and evaluation of activities relevant to the programs including faculty preparation/training, support, and course improvement. The Director leads a collaborative process with academic leaders and faculty to create and deliver innovative, high quality, and technology-enhanced instruction that promotes academic excellence, enhances student learning, and increases access. The Director reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES The Director is responsible for the development of policies, planning, management, and delivery of eLearning technology and online/blended courses. Responsibilities include advising and collaborating with faculty and academic units to plan, develop and coordinate courses and programs that employ various distance learning delivery strategies and eLearning solutions.
  • Administer and oversee the daily operations of the Learning Management System (LMS) including student account and course management
  • Develop and administer policies and procedures for online/blended courses, which facilitate the implementations of the design, standards, procedures and pedagogical practices
  • Develop and administer policies and procedures for online/blended courses, which facilitate processes for compliance with college, state, and federal requirements as well as accrediting/certifying bodies
  • Collaborate with academic units to strategically analyze courses and programs to determine migration to online delivery
  • Work with faculty to develop and implement course designs and builds to move courses online;
  • Create and coordinate visibility and marketing activities of eLearning
  • Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Research to implement evaluation of the eLearning programs to create, review, and share analytic reports
  • Administer local aspects of eCore collaborative program
  • Plan, develop, and present online learning and educational technology training, development, and certification for faculty, staff and students
  • Provide support for course design and implementation of eLearning strategies in face-face, online, and blended courses
  • Provide orientations and help services to online students as well as faculty and staff
  • Provide budgetary planning for eLearning programs
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate state and college accounting rules and regulations
  • Process necessary paperwork and processes for purchasing services/supplies
  • Collaborate with others on campus to bring additional resources to expand DL offerings
  • Coordinate selection and purchasing of eLearning solutions and services for academic programs
  • Create periodic reports on relevant indicators for quality and effectiveness of eLearning
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation of eLearning services, technologies, and emergent needs and use data to support and inform decision making about direction, growth projections, service improvement, and planning
  • Select indicators and tools which address relevant questions about DL to assist all stakeholders in improvement, growth, and expansion efforts
  • Administer and promote online Course Evaluations for all courses
  • Develop indicators of success and Quality (for example, Quality Matters)
  • Supervise and evaluate eLearning staff;
  • Serve on college committees and organizations
  • Manages the eLearning budget
  • Chairs eLearning Advisory Board
  • Master’s degree or higher in Educational Technology or related field
  • Three years of experience in the delivery, development, supervision and marketing of distance education programs
  • Instructional design and online teaching experience
  • Experience in the administration of Learning Management Systems and other educational technologies
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Earned Doctorate
  • Demonstrated collaborative and inclusive style of leadership with excellent organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines and handle conflicts effectively
  • Experience in training and faculty development management
  • Experience with state and national standards and requirements for eLearning
  • Experience in curriculum development, educational methodologies and assessment
  • Knowledge of Quality Matters or another nationally-recognized process for quality assurance for online education and student learning
