Required Qualifications: D.M.D/D.D.S degree or foreign equivalent. Qualified for dental medical licensure in NYS. Sustained record of academic accomplishment and national recognition. Visionary and strategic leader with knowledge and experience in the profession and academic dental institutions. Ability to lead and advance the mission of the School of Dental Medicine- education, research and clinical care. Communication skills both written and verbal. Experience in fiscal management. Fund-raising record.
Preferred Qualifications: Strong academic track record - successful extramural funding and scholarly accomplishments. Commitment to dental education and mentoring of young faculty and fellows. Experience with managing a complex dental practice within a medical center with oversight for clinical, education and research budgets. Ability to establish effective operation practices that create an environment that supports the missions of the school and university. Track record of recruiting and retaining outstanding clinical, educational and research (basic and translational) faculty. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership within a complex organization. Demonstrated experience in budgetary and personnel management.
Responsibilities & Requirements: The Dean will provide the academic and administrative leadership of the School of Dental Medicine. Primary responsibilities include articulating the mission and developing the overall strategy for the school and implementing the specific goals. The Dean will serve as the high-level interface with the various components of Stony Brook University's Health Sciences Community as well as the dental community of Long Island.
To qualify for tenure and/or a senior faculty appointment, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Dental Medicine criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure.

Special Notes: This is a tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated start date: October 1st, 2014.
