Columbus State University has an opening for a Financial Aid Counselor in the Office of Financial Aid. This position seeks an energetic and motivated individual who is committed to providing excellent financial aid services to current and prospective students and their families. This position is under the direct supervision of the Director of Financial Aid and will provide information and counsel financial aid recipients and applicants using knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations. This position will execute packaging funds from all sources using knowledge of federal needs analysis; review financial aid files by performing verification of data; initiate follow up items requiring clarification or any file discrepancies; and monitor and revise financial aid rewards accordingly due to changes in enrollment, EFC, housing or resources. The successful candidate will review eligibility and award students for the HOPE Scholarship program, federal entitlement and loan programs, and institutional funds; review federal aid applications and perform verification in accordance with federal policies; analyze tax documents, Leaving and Earning Statements, and other benefit statements; and counsel students on the application process and Satisfactory Academic Progress policies. This position will also coordinate additional specialized aid programs such as Federal Work Study, Appeals, and internal/external scholarship programs; conduct educational outreach sessions on financial aid for on-campus and public sectors; and all other related duties as assigned. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or two years of college and two or more years of related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. The selected candidate must have the ability to handle a high volume of calls and emails, as well as in-person advising; possess excellent customer service and communication skills; possess the ability to learn and interpret federal and state scholarship regulations and procedures; and possess the ability to analyze applications in relationship to financial needs. Previous financial aid experience and experience with BANNER is preferred. The salary is commensurate with education and experience.
