Position Summary: As part of an assigned team, security officers provide general security, public safety and other customer services to the University community. The individual patrols campus, conducts security inspections, building lockups, understands access control systems, circulation and safety systems, and emergency exits in event of an emergency, aware of and understands all special and general orders pertaining to area, building or functions of job, inspects and ensures security and safety of area or building, reports all deficiencies to his/her supervisor; knowledgeable of pedestrian traffic flow, recognizes unusual incidents or unwarranted intrusions, and effects prompt and proper requests for assistance when required; utilizes communications available for reporting purposes, emergency requests and normal business; operates departmental vehicle, as needed; and performs other duties as assigned. Officers respond to incidents, accidents, and other emergency situations and are responsible for administering CPR and First Aid. All members of the department are required to engage in various community-oriented public safety activities. The individual works under the direction of a police supervisor. Overtime is mandatory. This is an entry level, non-sworn public safety position.

Essential Qualifications: ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS -High school diploma or equivalent (advantage to those with college or university) -Current valid NJ motor vehicle operator's license (Penn. License for Penn. Residents) -Ability to work on all shifts, during various hours, including weekends and holidays PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary or medium heavy work; must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, walk, and run; must be able to restrain, lift and/or carry adults of varying weights. -Moderate physical activity. Must be able to exert up to thirty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. -Ability to operate a variety of machines and equipment including (but not limited to) automobile, office equipment, radio, telephone, etc. -Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures and loud noises. -Work involves moderate exposure to hazards and physical risks to personal safety; must be physically fit and able to defend one's self or others from attack or physical assault. -Must have 20-20 or 20-30 vision either naturally or with corrective lenses. -Must be able to work all shifts, including weekends, holidays -Must work overtime shifts when required some overtime assignments may be mandatory. -Final Candidates must successfully undergo the following examinations: *Selection and screening process (written and oral) *Comprehensive background investigation *Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical for hire, transfers, promotions and/or layoff placement

Preferred Qualifications: Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred.
