Tenure track 12 month, full time. Ph.D. in animal science, range science or related field and qualify for a tenured appointment at the rank of full professor. Applicants must have a national/international record of scholarly achievement in research and/or instruction and have excellent written and oral communication skills; must provide demonstrable evidence of effective administrative experience and collaborative leadership abilities. Administrative duties include, but are not limited to: personnel management, program evaluation, maintaining and expanding departmental facilities, faculty, staff, and administering departmental programs. The multidisciplinary department of Animal and Range Sciences consists of 22 tenured or tenure-track faculty with teaching, extension, and research responsibilities focusing mainly on sustainable and profitable livestock production and rangeland management in arid and semi-arid environments. The ruminant nutrition and reproductive physiology programs are nationally recognized; emerging areas of departmental growth are equine and companion animal science. There currently are approximately 380 undergraduate students (330 in Animal Science and 50 in Range Science) and 34 graduate students. The department offers a B.S. in Agriculture with majors in Animal Science and Rangeland Resources. Undergraduate Animal Science majors can further specialize in a livestock, equine, or companion animal science emphasis. The majority of animal science majors are pre-veterinary and the department was ranked in the top 10 in the nation for pre-veterinary students. The Department has extensive research and teaching facilities including on-campus agricultural land, the 28,000-acre Corona Range and Livestock Research Center in central New Mexico, and the 61,000-acre Chihuahuan Desert Rangeland Research Center near Las Cruces.
