This position resides in Graduate Studies. Routinely research and provide expert analysis and information to the Vice Provost/Dean and other senior campus leadership on graduate education research, graduate education policy, and implementation of recommendations to improve graduate education for the entire campus. Conduct original, academic research using complex statistical models and advanced techniques to expertly query campus and external data systems, validate and analyze results, produce technical reports, publish papers, and propose changes to campus policy and graduate program administration. Develop special studies on graduate education issues which require skilled analysis and synthesis of large, complex data sets, including analyses of UC Davis data, UC systemwide data, data from comparison institutions, and national data. Develop and implement complex, metrics-based methodologies used for the campus Graduate Tuition Budget Model managed by the Associate Vice Chancellor, Budget and Institutional Analysis, and the Graduate Program Fellowship Allocations managed by the Vice Provost/Dean. Coordinate with all levels of campus management to review and articulate changes to current graduate education policies, and to research and present recommendations for new graduate education policy and implementation. Oversee and manage analytical and administrative operations in support of the Graduate Council of the UC Davis Academic Senate.

Essential skills, knowledge and abilities:

Bachelor's degree in higher education policy, education administration, administration, public policy, statistics, or related fields and 5+ years of related experience performing institutional research in a higher education setting or related policy analysis office, especially in area of workload analysis, assessment, performance measurements and program evaluation theory and practice.

Knowledge of and experience with student information systems.

Knowledge and understanding of graduate education, including important current issues.

Knowledge of methodology used in data collection including survey methods, database design, statistical analyses and data reporting.

Knowledge of and skill in using multivariate statistics including multiple regression, logistic regression and survival analysis.

Skills in using statistical and other analytic software and database management software, including SAS, SPSS, and SQL databases and queries.

Skills to present complex data to facilitate decision-making.

Skills to interpret, understand and implement complex policy and requirements.

Skills in communicating research findings and recommendations to a variety of campus executives, managers, analysts, students, and other interested parties, both orally and in written form, including communicating complex ideas and data through use of text, graphs and tables.

Skills to communicate, interact and work effectively in a diverse environment and with diverse populations.
