The Student Retention Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal satisfactory academic progress (SAP) regulations, including but not limited to managing the appeal process, counseling at-risk students, reviewing appeals and making decisions regarding student eligibility for financial aid. The Student Retention Specialist works closely with academic advisors to develop procedures that ensure compliance with federal regulations and supports student success. In addition, the Student Retention Specialist counsels students/families on financial aid programs, policies and procedures, student eligibility, special circumstances, and financial planning. The Retention Specialist verifies student Cflag eligibility and monitors and revises financial aid awards due to changes in enrollment, EFC, housing, outside resources, special circumstances, etc. The University of Massachusetts Lowell is committed to increasing diversity in its faculty, staff, and student populations, as well as curriculum and support programs, while promoting an inclusive environment. Minimum Qualifications (Required): -Bachelor's Degree plus 3-5 years financial aid experience -Thorough knowledge of federal financial aid regulations -Demonstrated experience with regulatory compliance -The ability to work effectively with diverse groups Other Considerations: -Strong organizational skills and flexibility to adjust to changing priorities -Functional experience with an integrated Student Information Systems required; expertise with PeopleSoft Student Administration System preferred -Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite -Excellent interpersonal and public communications skills -Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment -Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours as needed -Understanding of technology to deliver student financial aid -Embrace technology and appreciate how to use it to enhance service to students Required Applicant Documents: (Online Submissions Only) -Resume -Cover Letter -Names and contact information of three references Special Instructions to Applicants: Only Internal Professional (SEIU 888 Professional Union) Bargaining candidates will be considered during the first 10 business days of the posting.
