Salary Range The competitive salary is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Responsibilities Management of Fundraising Responsibilities • Work with Regional Directors to develop gift opportunities and secure private support from individuals, foundations and corporations in SDSU regions currently identified as areas for fundraising activities. • Develop and manage a small portfolio of major gift prospects. • Oversee the process and strategy development for identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major and planned gifts for assigned priorities. • Represent the university to internal and external constituencies. • Coordinate regional development efforts with the current recruitment activities in Student Affairs and Enrollment Services. • Coordinate regional development efforts with Alumni Engagement. • Work with colleagues in further developing the Regional Program by determining agreed upon division-wide standards for organizing meetings, communicating with constituents and distributing materials to support the fund raising efforts of the councils, including the exploration of adding additional teams members for supervision in the regional areas. • Work with the Associate Vice President to identify and target new areas for regional efforts. Development Strategy and Logistics • Advise, guide, prepare and debrief academic and volunteer leaders in carrying out their development responsibilities. • Coordinate activities with central development programs including prospect management, research, communications, donor relations and annual/leadership giving. • Serve as an active and contributing member at the Principal Gift and Major Gift Strategy Sessions and Division Operations meetings. • Participate in campus committees requiring a development representative as requested. • Work with the National Leadership Council and its efforts on behalf of the Campaign for SDSU. Management • Manage and supervise the Senior Director of Development, University Initiatives, the Director of Development and the Administrative Support Coordinator. • Will coordinate with all other Directors of Development with regional responsibilities. Special Projects • Work with volunteers as needed to achieve fund raising objectives and special projects as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Excellent organizational skills, oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills. • Ability to utilize computer applications and databases to correspond, prepare written materials and manage time/work flow. Experience and Education • A BA/BS degree in relevant field or combination of education and experience. • A minimum of 10 or more years of experience in major gifts fundraising. • Success in major gift fund-raising ($100,000+) that demonstrates ability to align strategy development/implementation with pre-approved goals/priorities. Specialized Requirements • Proven experience in all facets of development including: gift administration, gift acceptance, prospect management, research, annual giving, volunteer management and communications. • Demonstrated success as a development professional in a donor-centered fund-raising environment. • Ability to thrive in an environment of change. • Demonstrated ability to make complex decisions, problem-solve and serve as an effective team member. • Demonstrated success in providing volunteer leadership. • A high degree of commitment to higher education and philanthropy. • Ability to handle competing priorities in a complex development environment. • Ability to represent San Diego State and University Development in a positive manner on campus and with external constituencies. • Must have the ability to travel and attend off-campus appointments and events. • May on occasion be required to attend events or perform duties outside of normal work hours. Preferred Qualifications • Fund-raising experience in a large, complex university. • Demonstrated success with comprehensive and/or capital campaigns. • Appropriate advanced degree. • Planned giving experience. • Demonstrated transferable skills will be considered.
