Dean of Arts and Sciences
The Academic Dean provides leadership for planning, budgeting, organizing, scheduling, overseeing personnel matters, and coordinating activities in the Academic area to ensure the delivery of quality programs/courses in support of the institution's mission. Minimum Qualifications - Master's degree in one of the disciplines the Dean provides leadership for; - Three years' administrative experience - Three years' teaching experience at the community college Preferred Qualifications - Doctorate degree in one of the disciplines the Dean provides leadership for or in Education. - Five to seven years' administrative experience - Ten years' teaching experience preferably at the community college - A firm commitment to the ideals and mission of the community college Work Hours Monday- Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. & 5:00 p.m. Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities - Set goals and objectives for employees supervised. - Delegate tasks and functions to qualified employees supervised. - Provide assistance and support for all employees supervised and promote professional development within the faculty of Arts and Sciences. - Promote a collegial environment supportive of faculty and staff for continued growth and learning. - Provide leadership for the strategic development of new programs based on community need, and as budgeted and forecasted. - Provide leadership in implementing and sustaining program accreditations and certifications, as relevant. - Maintain the currency and viability of existing programs through such activities as program review, and through the development of partnerships with industry and four-year institutions, where feasible. - Participate in Advisory Board meetings and other program-related associations/organizations, as related to the curricular area. - Support faculty in assessment of student learning outcomes in all programs and certificates and provide direction for program improvement. - Develop and maintain budgets, and develop plans for capital requests in a timely manner per request of the office of the Vice President of Administration. - Promote quality instruction by overseeing the tenure of new faculty and conducting timely and regular faculty observations/evaluations for both full-time and part-time faculty per faculty contract at all locations. - Recruit, select, and develop full-time and part-time faculty with appropriate credentials to fit the requirements of the position description. - Manage for effectiveness the course schedule and assignment of faculty load, per faculty contract and ensure a schedule supporting student needs. - Mediate between faculty and students and/or others, in compliance with federal and state laws and college policies and procedures. - Supervise personnel in the Dean's office and other direct reports per function of the academic area. - Serve on institutional committees and work collaboratively with other areas of the College. - Ensure academic integrity of all educational offerings within the Arts & Sciences. - Support and promote the effective use of existing and emerging technologies in the teaching learning process. - Prepare institutional state and national reports as required on a timely basis. - Seek and administer additional funding sources such as grants. Related Job Duties - Meet regularly with Division Chairs - Implement special projects or duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs. - Advise and monitor faculty leadership in general education - Advise faculty leadership in PTK and Honors activities Supervision Exercised Full and part time faculty members of Arts and Sciences divisions Administrative Assistant to the Dean Supervision Received Works under the general supervision of the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
