The Department of Surgery, at the Hospital for Sick Children is inviting applications for the position of Surgeon-In-Chief. The effective date of this appointment is January 1, 2015.
The Surgeon-in-Chief is responsible to the President for the academic, clinical, research and administrative activities of surgical services in support of the mission and strategic directions of SickKids. The Surgeon-in-Chief is a key member of the President's senior management team, ensuring the successful integration of surgical services into the Hospital's overall business plan. This includes contributing to the development and implementation of the Hospital's strategic plan, ensuring all policies, programs and initiatives are consistent and supportive of the Hospital's mission, vision and values. The Surgeon-in-Chief is expected to contribute to quality of care improvements, operational efficiencies, and the optimization of human, financial, and infrastructural resources. The Surgeon-in-Chief supports the ongoing design and implementation of leading edge programs, processes, and technologies ensuring continuous improvement and is expected to strengthen the integration of care, education, research, and to promote the successes, needs and opportunities of the Department of Surgery to ensure visibility for fundraising. The Surgeon-in-Chief is a role model through strong relationships and visibility, and through effective internal and external communications. An active surgical practice with an international reputation for excellence in patient care is required. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required.
The successful candidate should ideally possess an ability to collaborate with a range of stakeholders, well-honed negotiation and influencing skills, strong planning and organizational skills, strong conceptual thinking skills, and consistently demonstrate behaviours supporting values of innovation, integrity, collaboration, and excellence. The candidate should be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto and be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, minimum $500,000.
