Job Summary

As a member of the Office of Information Technology (OIT), provides ongoing operational support, database development and technical support for the Office of Institutional Research (OIR). The incumbent will be responsible for all database related activities, ETL development and processing, and data quality assurance and remediation. The incumbent serves as technical expert in complex support tasks for OIR functional staff.

 

The Office of Institutional Research (OIR) performs research, analysis, and reporting that supports ongoing campus strategic planning. This includes collecting, analyzing, and disseminating institutional data, obtaining and tracking comparative and benchmarking data, conducting and analyzing surveys of specific constituencies (students, employees, alumni, etc.), engaging in research vital for informed decision-making, and reporting data to internal and external audiences.

 

Salary: Range $65,154.00 - $95,110

Work Schedule: 8-5, M-F

Contract Position.

May be required to work outside normal working hours during emergencies and maintenance windows, and to monitor and act on scheduled process jobs.

Final candidate subject to background check.

Job Description
Job Essential Function 1
Percent of Time: 40%
 
Analyzes, designs, develops, tests, implements and optimizes all database related functions in a large and complex Microsoft SQL Server environment. Designs and modifies tables, indexes, constraints, stored procedures and functions. Develops and optimizes complex queries and views. Provides high-level database support, including data interpretation, for OIR functional staff. Ensures that the security and integrity of all data are not compromised.

Percent of Time: 20%
 
Provides ongoing operation, support and maintenance of regular processes, including those related to 3rd week and end-of-term census data, the Course Reporting System (CRS), employee staffing reports, and various special projects.

Percent of Time: 20%
 
Develops Extract/Transform/Load (ETL) processes to support OIR operational and analytical needs, and to support external systems that are producers or consumers of OIR data. Develops processes to evaluate the quality and consistency of transmitted data, and works with source offices and other staff to remediate.

Maintains data models and data dictionaries describing all OIR data and databases for technical and non-technical users.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
 
Required:
Three (3) to five (5) years with BA/BS OR one (1) to three (3) years with MA/MS or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
 
Minimum three years of experience working in a data-driven technical environment.
 
Strong SQL development skills.
 
Extensive experience using Unix in a development environment, including scripting and shell programming.
 
Desired:
Microsoft SQL Server development.
 
Strong Java programming skills using Java-related technologies including Maven, Ajax, JMS, web services, SVN, Spring, Hibernate and JPA.
 
Perl experience including dbi/dbd development.
 
ETL tools experience including Informatica or Talend.
 
Familiarity with relational and dimensional database modeling, Windows, Office, and Business.
 
Intelligence tools such as Tableau, SAS and Cognos.
