Job Description The Director of Communications, University Libraries, University of South Carolina, Columbia, is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communications program aimed at providing visibility and recognition of our libraries on campus, in the community and to a national audience. The program will increase awareness of our unique collections and innovative services that facilitate our vital role in the teaching and research mission of the University and draw researchers from around the world. This position oversees media relations, outreach initiatives, and the production of all library publications and marketing materials. Develops communications strategies, in conjunction with library faculty, highlighting initiatives, activities, events and programs to enhance awareness and understanding of the libraries' role in the teaching and research mission of the University. Oversees development, distribution, and maintenance of marketing and promotional materials as well as newsletters and other publications, and ensures conformity with the University's brand identity. Oversees media relations efforts for the Libraries in conjunction with Public Information Coordinator and University media relations staff. In collaboration with the Libraries' Development Office, develops communications to stimulate donor cultivation and ensure that appropriate donor recognition objectives are achieved. Oversees social media presence for the libraries and identifies opportunities to enhance online communications through a variety of digital media. Provides direction for development of outreach activities in collaboration with Outreach Librarian and library faculty and staff. Conducts ongoing assessment of the reach and effectiveness of library publications and marketing materials in consultation with the Assessment Librarian. Chairs the library's Communications Team charged with developing initiatives to advance internal and external communications. Serves on the University's Integrated Marketing Communications team and as the library's liaison to the University's Communications Division. Supervises the library's Public Information Coordinator and the Outreach Librarian. The University of South Carolina, founded in 1801, enrolls approximately 23,300 undergraduate students and 6,400 graduate students on the Columbia campus. University Libraries contains more than 3.5 million volumes, 20 million manuscripts, 325,000 maps, and 944,000 government documents; and houses the University's special collections. University Libraries is a member of LYRASIS, OCLC, the Association of South Eastern Research Libraries, the Association of Research Libraries, and the Center for Research Libraries. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Full-time, 12-month, unclassified, tenure-track, faculty status position with the rank of Librarian. Minimum Qualifications Required qualifications: An accredited master's degree in journalism, communications, or library science, as well as at least five years' experience utilizing a comprehensive communications plan to include the effective implementation of social media, the creation of public relations campaigns, and the development of close media ties.

Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications: Experience in communications or public relations in a library or higher education setting, two years' management experience, and experience with fundraising and donor relations.
