Director of Learning and Technology

Position Purpose In close collaboration with senior leadership, the Director of Learning and Technology is responsible for the strategic direction, tactical execution and management of all aspects of MedU’s education technology services. The Director is instrumental in the development and coordination of new technologies to support MedU’s growth in both online programs and blended learning for transformative healthcare professional education. Key Responsibilities • Collaborate with senior leadership to establish the direction and priorities for MedU’s transformative learning technology platform and services. Foster strategic awareness of emerging technologies within higher education. • Assume responsibility for the face of MedU products to our users, ensuring they remain timely, germane, user friendly and the standard by which other products in this space are judged. Oversee the management of user support and feature requests. • Oversee and manage strategic partnerships and contracts with vendors. • Lead the conceptualization and development of new online learning platforms including instructional design, content mapping, assessment and learning analytic capabilities. Identify, assess, prioritize and develop solutions to meet a broad range of users’ needs, including learners, educators and administrators. • Lead the efforts of MedU programming staff and contractors, and project management staff and outside vendors to ensure effective development release cycles. Oversee user testing as needed to create an exemplary user experience. • Lead the development and implementation of both online and face-to-face faculty development programs to assure that MedU products are extensively integrated into active learning approaches (e.g. flipped classroom) at subscribing institutions. • Collaborate with senior leadership on the development and execution of business goals. Oversee technology budgets and spending, and guide technology-related investment decisions. Participate in quality and process improvement. • Maintain strong networks with thought leaders in education technology and key stakeholders to support MedU’s mission of innovation, collaboration, and development of effective programs and services. Effectively communicate MedU’s vision and value to diverse audiences in presentations and publications. • Partner with marketing partners and programming staff to manage the design and functionality of the MedU web site, including optimization of functionality, site architecture, user interface, navigation and content maintenance. • Contribute to the conceptualization and development of new online courses, including curriculum development and innovation, content mapping and course assessments. Serve as a resource to MedU educators as requested. • Participate in the design, implementation, analysis and authorship of education research that validate and predict successful educational outcomes for students taking MedU courses and contribute to the body of knowledge on learning. • Provide staff development in learning design and technology as needed. Qualifications • Ability to set and effectively communicate a vision for learning technologies that demonstrates a mission-driven orientation towards education transformation within higher and/or medical education. • Extensive understanding and accomplishments in a wide area of technologies and their application for teaching and learning across academic disciplines. • Demonstrated experience leading or managing collaborative development of new and innovative technology products and projects. • Strong knowledge of current literature and research in learning design and practice. Comfort with education research methods and data analytics preferred. • Ability to organize and manage complex activities and to complete assignments in a timely fashion with attention to detail and accuracy. • Ability to partner with subject matter experts and learning professionals around course design and faculty development. • Strong presence and accomplishments in professional communities or societies related to higher education, learning design and/or education technology. • Demonstrated ability to identify, gather and present data to drive recommendations and decisions. • Experience with budgeting and financial management. • Experience managing programming staff. • Experience in technology vendor relationships and support experience, preferably in an education setting. • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and high levels of social intelligence, with a strong customer orientation. • Faculty development and teaching experience preferred. Minimum Requirements Masters degree in education or instructional design a minimum (MD, PhD or other terminal degree preferred) and at least 5 years relevant work experience. Special Work Schedule Requirements Exempt position. The demands of the position frequently require effort beyond standard working hours, including but not limited to evenings and weekends, and may include travel.
