The new Vice President for Human Resources will provide vision and leadership to ensure that human resources at Tufts is aligned with institutional priorities, attuned to changing workplace demographics and supportive of individual employees. The Vice President will work with a talented HR team to develop a mission and shared goals for Human Resources that emphasize service, collaboration, and communication. Tufts is committed to identifying and implementing best-practice HR services, and the VP for Human Resources will collaborate with administrative and academic leadership to identify approaches and develop policies and practices that increase overall services and support to the campus and also increase efficiencies. While TEAM provides the framework for much of this work, the Vice President will provide additional expertise, energy and strategic insight.
Collaborating with University leadership, most importantly Tufts' new Chief Diversity Officer, the Vice President for Human Resources will help to build and sustain a culture of inclusion and civility on all Tufts' campuses. S/he will work in partnership with the Office of General Counsel on labor relations and to ensure that Tufts maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.
The new Vice President for Human Resources will bring analytical and data-based decision-making capability to influence strategy and make better institutional decisions, while preserving Tufts' personal, relationship-based culture.
The VPHR will serve as a member of the university's Academic Council of senior academic and administrative leaders, chaired by the President, as well as the university-wide Administrative Council chaired by the Executive Vice President.
Strong candidates will have a Bachelor's degree, advanced training and/or certification in Human Resources, and a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible human resources experience, with at least five years at the senior management level. Candidates who possess the qualities and experiences the University seeks will likely come from higher education/not-for-profit, but others are also welcome to apply and should show evidence of their ability to work collaboratively and successfully within a higher education environment. Experience in a shared services environment is desirable, as is experience in leveraging technology to improve HR services. The successful candidate will have a record of success in leading change while maintaining a positive, supportive work environment, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, excellent communication skills, and a talent for team-building.
