Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services
Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa announces the search for a new Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services. The Vice President will lead the Finance and Administrative Services division and report directly to the President of the College. Key leadership responsibilities include the College budget, endowment portfolio, and banking/vendor relationships. . The successful candidate will have direct supervision responsibilities for the areas of Physical Plant, Information Technology, Human Resources and the Business Office. As a member of the President’s Administrative Team, the Vice President will lead and provide significant contributions to the formulation, implementation, and administration of College-wide financial policies and goals. The Vice President will work closely with the President and Board of Regents in developing strategic initiatives for the growth and financial well-being of the institution. The appointee will take office in the of Spring 2015.
Loras College was founded in 1839 as a Catholic liberal arts college dedicated to the total development of the student. As Iowa’s first college and the second Catholic college formed west of the Mississippi, Loras has a long legacy of dedication to Catholic higher education and the liberal arts. It has always been a small college that provides a personal education experience, yet large enough to offer a wide variety of quality academic programs.
This 65 acre residential campus is located in a scenic area that is nestled high atop the majestic bluffs of the Mississippi River in Dubuque, IA. Dubuque is Iowa’s oldest city and is among the oldest settlements west of the Mississippi River. The first permanent settler to the area was French-Canadian fur trader Julien Dubuque. Today, Dubuque and the surrounding area has a population of approximately 100,000 people. Loras and the city have a very good working relationship.
Among other things the Vice President would have the responsibility for the development and implementation of effective financial, accounting, and strategic planning. In addition he/she would be responsible for developing, recommending, and the implementation of such internal accounting and financial controls and programs as are necessary to preserve and expand the college assets.
The successful candidate will be an active listener with excellent analytical and communication skills. He/She will have demonstrated strategic vision and the ability to align the college’s financial issues with the larger mission and vision of the College. He/She will also bring a high level of financial aptitude with an ability to understand and explain economic and accounting information, prepare and manage budgets and make sound long-term investment decisions. The successful candidate will assume responsibility for the management of the physical facilities and physical plant staff. An ability to effectively build relationships and maintain rapport with internal and external constituents is essential, especially the board and administration. Candidates must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field or equivalent work experience. A CPA, CMA or MBA is preferred. In addition the successful candidate will have seven to ten years of related progressive experience that involves significant supervisory experience, ideally in a comparable, higher education environment.
