Director of Security Systems
The University of Chicago (UC) is one of the nation’s leading institutions of higher education and research. The University’s Department of Safety and Security includes the following units: University of Chicago Police Department (UCPD), Management Operations which includes Transportation and Parking Services, Security for the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, Security for the University of Chicago Charter School, Emergency Management, Environmental Health and Safety, and the Office of the Associate Vice President. The Director manages security systems including access control, surveillance cameras, and emergency phones, for the entire University and medical center. The Director consults with vendors in the design of security systems; assesses requests for electronic security support by other departments; manages approved electronic security systems projects; represents Safety and Security in new construction and renovation projects; reviews and revises security systems policies as well as, coordinates the implementation of new and revised policies; serves as the Safety and Security liaison to other UC departments and organizations for matters relating to security systems; develops institutional programs to support security systems; assists with the development of departments’ security systems programming; evaluates and analyzes the performance of UC security system programs; assesses training needs and requirements, prepares in-service training programs, and develops training plans for new staff. The Director supervises the Assistant Director for Security Systems and remains on call 24 hours a day. The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree and at least three years of supervisory experience with multi-system integration and administration. Experience with the planning, oversight, installation, and administration of access control, camera, and other security related technology is also required. Five years of experience in strategic and operations planning, in-service training management, systems design, management of contract services, security or healthcare management, and policy development is preferred. The ideal candidate will possess experience with CBORD Integrated Solutions; experience with NICE Systems products, including video analytics, NICE Enterprise and Situator; experience with law enforcement, parking and transportation related technology such as license plate recognition (LPR), ridership measuring software, GPS tracking, and parking lot access control and space management software; and experience in a academic environment.
