Description:

The University Health Network (UHN) Histocompatibility Laboratory, (HLA) a component of the Laboratory Medicine Program at UHN and the University of Toronto's Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology are seeking an Academic Specialist in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor.  The start date will be mutually agreed upon. 

The successful candidate must have MD or PhD degree and certification by the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics or its equivalent. The MD candidate must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and surgeons of Ontario.  Duties include the oversight of quality assurance/quality control practices in the Laboratory; development and validation of new testing technologies and platforms; development and validation of standard processes for workflow in the Lab, and between the lab and stakeholders; review of testing and creation/finalization of all solid organ, bone marrow, disease association and research based reports. Consultation with clinical programs where specialized testing/interpretation is required, continuing education of technologies; development or educational platforms and provision of continuing education of clinical trainees. On-call availability to clinical programs and technologists; interaction with stakeholder clinical programs and services.

The Histocompatibility Laboratory at UHN supports the largest solid organ and bone marrow transplant programs in Canada; it is accredited with the Ontario Laboratory Association and the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics and utilizes a diverse array of tests and technologies.

The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The current base salary is $232,500 per annum for a MD candidate and $110,000 per annum for a PhD candidate.  In addition you will receive the UHN benefit enhancement for management staff. There is also an allocation of $4,200 per annum for travel and education allowance. For MD's the Ministry of Health and Long Term Service has implemented a program to ensure a minimum total compensation package that will equalize your compensation with that of other Laboratory Physicians in the Province.
