Assistant Dean of Assessment and Compliance
This position is designed to support the Offices of Academic Affairs and Advanced Education, and Student Affairs and Admissions in the Georgia Regents University (GRU) College of Dental Medicine (CDM). These offices are responsible for pre-doctoral dental student (DMD) admissions, curriculum evaluation, oversight of the DMD program and eight advanced dental education (residency) programs, student affairs, code of conduct administration, and monitoring of student academic progress. Assessment activities maintained by these offices are used in support of college (CODA) and institutional (SACSCOC) accreditation, as well as faculty development, and promotion and tenure documentation. This individual will be primarily responsible for providing leadership and management of CDM assessment and accreditation activities, in conjunction with the existing faculty governance structure and operations in the College. Key Responsibilities: • Plan, organize, and coordinate assessment activities; develop policies and procedures for the CDM Office of Assessment (to be established) • In collaboration with the CDM Offices of Academic Affairs, Advanced Education, and Student Affairs and Admissions, support continuous academic program assessment and improvement of student learning through consultation, mentoring, and hands-on training of faculty and staff • Lead the planning, development, implementation, analysis, and reporting of student learning outcomes and related activities • Support the ongoing development and implementation of comprehensive outcomes assessment programs for the DMD program and eight advanced dental education programs that support the college’s strategic plan • Participate in the collection and analysis of various assessment data to support both college-wide accreditation and CDM program reviews • Create, administer and track multiple curriculum/program evaluation surveys (i.e., students, graduates and employers) Activities in this area include dissemination of results and assisting others with understanding and using them. • Interpret assessment findings and prepare all required assessment reports to summarize such findings, with particular emphasis on the quality of the assessment efforts and how they influence institutional decision-making and policy development. • Compile the necessary information and data for completion of academic surveys for ADEA, CODA and the ADA as well as completion and timely submission of these surveys • Record, store, manage, and disseminate confidential and sensitive assessment data as appropriate. Maintaining and reporting learning outcome data in Campus Labs or equivalent university-wide administrative data bases. • Compile and report teaching effectiveness data for the CDM and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness • Work with campus resources to design and maintain various social media pages/websites for the College of Dental Medicine • Manage Academic Affairs databases to assure that they are regularly updated with new data for admitted/matriculated students, with student name changes, changes in class status, and withdrawals/terminations • Regular review and revision of CDM Student Academic Progress Policies and the Code of Conduct to assure compliance with institutional policies • Communicate programmatic and personnel changes to CODA in accordance with accreditation compliance guidelines • Provide administrative support or consultation to the Curriculum Committee, the Student Academic Review Committee, the Student Affairs Committee, the Advanced Education Committee, and the Faculty Development Committee. • Provide research support to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Advanced Education and to the Associate Dean for Students, Admissions and Alumni (i.e., literature review, data cleaning, statistical analysis). • Contribute to grant writing efforts for support of academic programs Minimum Qualifications: • Master’s degree required; PhD or EdD in higher education administration preferred. • Training and/or experience equivalent to five years in higher education that includes strategic planning, academic assessment, research and measurement, statistical analysis, or other appropriate and related fields. • Demonstrated proficiency in assessment, data analysis, and educational outcomes, metrics and software as it relates to curriculum, learning objective and accreditation requirements. • Demonstrated ability for effective organizational skills and an ability to balance a focus on the strategic mission and vision of the institution with attention to the tactics and goals of the administrative units in the college. • Demonstrated ability to synthesize and analyze quantitative and qualitative data and prepare and present reports effectively. • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and SPSS/SAS or other similar statistical analysis software. • Interest/passion in working closely with faculty, students and staff to promote engagement, leadership and professional development through interactions with local, regional and national organizations and associations.
