Department Summary:

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR) is responsible for overseeing the Offices of Research Administration, Technology Licensing and Industry Collaboration, and Proposal Development, programs for the use of animals in research and teaching, the protection of human subjects in research, and the use of infectious agents and recombinant DNA on all three campuses (Boston, Grafton, and Medford), and the Division of Laboratory Animal Medicine on the Boston and Medford/Somerville campus and implementation of the university's policies on scientific integrity, conflict of interest in research, and other areas that support research.  The Office of the Vice Provost for Research assures that the services and resources provided by the units under its direction meet the needs of the research community and, in cooperation with the Vice President for Finance, satisfies the requirements of laws and regulations that govern research, and protecting the University's interests.  This includes policy development, strategic planning, and oversight.  Staff of the OVPR work with school deans and other administrative offices to assure that the resources are available, systems are in place, and the environment is conducive to research.  The OVPR staff work closely with the research leadership of Tufts University's schools and Tufts Medical Center to promote cooperation, collaboration, and sharing of resources and to maintain a positive working relationship between the schools and with the hospital.  This Office maintains close working relationships with deans, faculty and department chairs in order to keep abreast of the needs and direction of research and to foster an environment of open communication and responsiveness. 

Job Summary:

The Business Analyst is responsible for the analysis and design of business processes for the implementation of the research administration system, Kuali Coeus. Duties include leading critical design sessions, conducting interviews and facilitating focus group and business design meetings with end-users and key stakeholders; documenting and communicating decisions; communicating and applying defined project standards as well as providing guidance, subject matter expertise and best practices to the project. He/she will work closely with the Huron and Tufts Project Managers and Business Analyst to provide daily communication of status and issues and to ensure that tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner. The Business Analyst is also responsible for developing business design documentation for software enhancements, modifications and interfaces; staying abreast of new system releases such as batches and upgrades; developing functional report specifications; and designing and leading testing efforts. He/she ensures issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner. Other responsibilities include facilitating pilots with end-users and coordinating rollout tasks. Once the system is implemented, the Business Analyst is responsible for the ongoing service support, customer satisfactions, and application enhancements.  He/she will attend and participate in Kuali Coeus user group meetings, relevant subcommittees and other community functions. The research administration system project is a joint partnership between the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Tufts Technology Services (TTS). The Business Analyst will report directly to the Business Operations Director in the Office of the Vice Provost for Research but will receive assignments and directions from other project team members.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:

This position requires 5-7 years of related experience implementing vendor-based applications with experience in the academic research compliance domain strongly desired. Must hold a Bachelor's degree. Full understanding of the software implementation lifecycle and experience with industry methodologies for managing complex implementation projects is required.  Prior experience as technical resource or business analysis on a project team is strongly desired.  Exceptional written and oral communications are a must with direct experience managing communications with senior leadership, project sponsors, stakeholders and software vendors.  The ability to effectively facilitate and lead complex and mission critical focus group/ business design sessions is a must.  The ability to establish project standards and manage a team according to those standards is required. Must have a clear and demonstrable understanding of the challenges facing academic research administration and must be comfortable leading discussions and setting the direction for implementation projects within this domain. The ability to manage time effectively and work under tight deadlines is a must.  Ability to manage time effectively and work under tight deadlines is a must. Should be highly-motivated, self-starter, detail-oriented, able to handle confidential matters with discretion, have excellent prioritization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Should be adaptable to shifts in prioritization of projects and still be able to keep projects going. Should be outgoing and approachable with a professional demeanor with strong customer focus.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a Higher Education environment; Experience implementing vendor based applications with experience in the academic research compliance domain; Subject matter expertise in Grants Administration and experience with Kuali Coeus/Coeus a plus.
