Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Corporate and Foundation Relations, the Director will provide leadership in and have primary responsibility for foundation fund raising for gifts and grants between $100K to $1 million. This is a dynamic role at a major research university with great career growth potential. The University of Maryland is one of the nation’s premiere research universities with many highly-ranked programs located just nine miles from the U.S. Capital with significant interaction with many government agencies and private funders. The Director will be required to create thoughtful strategies that align University strengths, initiatives, and priorities with foundation programs, and play a key role in positioning the University on the leading edge within a myriad of disciplines. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.): Bachelor’s degree required. Experience: Three to five years of experience working with private foundations, government grants and/or corporate foundations is required. Experience preparing reports on revenue projections, and monitoring progress of all grant submissions is required. Experience writing proposals is required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills is required. Experience working in a deadline-driven environment is required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the foundation community. Understanding and appreciation of the University of Maryland and its diversity of graduate and undergraduate programs in all disciplines. Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines. Strong written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of fundraising information sources. Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies. Knowledge and familiarity with prospect research. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Physical Demands of the Position: Traditional office environment with much time spent working at a computer. Must be willing to travel as much as 10 % of the time.
