User Experience Designer
Posting Description: Examples of Work Performed * Drive the development and communication of digital design guidelines, patterns, and libraries. * Regularly conduct usability testing including creating task lists, observing users, compiling feedback and findings, making recommendations, and producing reports. * Facilitate key stakeholders design review sessions with the goal of advocating for the user needs, and achieving consensus among stakeholders for the design solution. * Compromise when it makes sense. See user experience design as an evolution requiring relationship building to shepherd a product to the envisioned design over time. * Communicate requirements to developers using business, functional and technical specifications, flow charts, storyboards, wireframes, concept designs, use cases, and process diagrams. * Design iteratively in step with the development process, conceptualizing and refining ideas with a close eye to trends in user data. * Work closely with product manager to convert market research into concrete designs and with front-end developers to convert designs into clean front-end code. * Assist with developing and delivering client presentations, project proposals and scope documentation. * Regularly conduct workshops with business units to enhance the overall user experience of their web or intranet sites. * Serve as subject matter expert to the university community as it adapts to new methods of collaboration, communication, business process automation and analysis using SharePoint. * Help establish a Center of Excellence for SharePoint through user experience leadership, evangelization, best practices, research, support and training.
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree. * Three years' experience working in web design with a strong emphasis on user experience and usability in a higher education, corporate, or ecommerce environment. * Experience with wireframe and prototyping tools such as MS Visio, Axure or Balsamic. * Experience in graphics editing tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or Fireworks.
Substitutions: Work experience in the occupational field or specialized subject area of the work assigned to the job may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the degree.

Required Competencies/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Solid understanding of user-centered design principles, excellent visual design skills, great technical know-how and a proven expertise in interaction design. * Expert at developing conceptual use cases, user flows, diagrams and working prototypes based on market analysis, customer feedback, site metrics, and usability findings. * Provide a clear, consistent voice on end-to-end user experience design to project teams and stakeholders. * Effectively communicate research findings, conceptual ideas and detailed design rationale, both verbally and visually to managers, marketing, business analysts, and development teams. * Experience working collaboratively with developers to ensure designs can be implemented without negatively compromising the integrity of the system. * Strong command of typography, color, composition, information design, hierarchy and an understanding of how these elements work together for a design solution. * Ability to quickly acquire knowledge of business objectives and organizational structures in a large and complex organization with diverse and numerous constituents through stakeholder interviews, focus groups, networking, surveys, etc. * Expert time-management skills and ability to provide accurate time estimates and meet deadlines. * Thorough understanding of website design complexities such as browser inconsistencies, mobile platform compatibility and web coding standards. * Comfortable taking a data-led approach to design. * Polished written and verbal communication. * Strong interpersonal skills, tactfulness, customer-service ethic and follow-through are a must. * Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills. * A team player, always willing to lend a helping hand and contribute to a positive team culture. * Familiarity with web analytics and related user research tools such as Google Analytics, Usertesting.com, etc. * A proven track record of creative design and strategy that anticipates market trends, user needs, product requirements and business goals. * Expert in the principles and practices of user centered design, responsive design and Information Architecture across both desktop and mobile platforms. * In-depth knowledge of developing A/B and multivariate testing, user surveys, wireframes and prototypes, user flows, design patterns, user profiles and personas. * Proven experience identifying and continuously tracking user experience success metrics, summarizing in usability test reports and recommending optimization efforts. * Comfortable discussing color theory, user psychology, or the semantic implications of the DIV tag. * Ability to write clean CSS and HTML. * Understanding of design considerations for successful Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Desired Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: * Experience using, developing or designing in SharePoint 2010, 2013 or equivalent large-scale enterprise CMS. * Experience with application lifecycle management (ALM) methodologies and how they pertain to user experience design. * Experience with Agile development methodologies. * Experience working with or for a higher education institution. * Experience with MS Project or Project Server.
