Essential Job Duties: NC State University is seeking an energetic, innovative, student-centered leader for the position of Public Communication Specialist. We seek an individual with proven leadership experience capable of working as part of a fast-paced, results-oriented team. The candidate will provide strategic direction and execute a marketing and communications plan that promotes and inspires participation in Student Leadership and Engagement programs and services. Responsibilities include: * Responsible for strategic development and execution of comprehensive marketing and communications plan for Student Leadership and Engagement units. * Assist Associate Vice Provost and individual unit directors in developing and implementing marketing programs and materials to attract and retain participants through a variety of media including but not limited to print, web and social media. * Supervise student interns who help provide advertising/marketing/social media support to the 600+ student organizations. * Conceptualize, execute and oversee the creation of all marketing and print material on behalf of Student Leadership and Engagement. Proofread, copy edit, verify information and oversee layouts. Coordinate work between writers, designers, photographers, and publishers. * Develop a consistent brand image that is innovative, dynamic and reflective of Student Leadership and Engagement and its units as well as the university. * Update, design and implement unit websites using the integration of media-rich technologies (blogs, social media feeds, web forums, content management systems, etc.) * Provide web content strategy for structure and new functionality. This may include evaluating social media analytics. * Take photographs for publications, web content, news releases, and feature stories. * Responsible for leading unit-wide incident related communication responses in collaboration with Associate Vice Provost and Division of Academic & Student Affairs (DASA) Communication Director. * Write press releases and coordinate news coverage with local news outlets based on appropriate venues as needed. * Assist units with creating and ordering giveaways and marketing incentives for various programs and special events. * Develop talking points for dissemination by staff as needed. * Write and edit text for print and digital media. Will report to, and work closely with Associate Vice Provost and the Director of DASA Marketing and Communications to: * Assist directors with the design, implementation of web/social media related efforts. * Develop and articulate to Associate Vice Provost and unit directors web content strategy for structure and new functionality. * Work with DASA Marketing & Communications to adhere to University and division branding standards as related to web and social media marketing efforts. * Coordinate with IT staff to implement the web site while ensuring web site meets university standards. * Serve on DASA Communicators Council. * Communicate with SL&E community to identify newsworthy content. * Keep current on new technologies and implement into existing frameworks Maintain all list servs, mailing lists, email databases, etc. * Provide design assistance for print projects and promotional materials for events and activities. * Research topics and interview individuals for print and digital media. * Write and edit text for print and digital media. * Photograph images for print and digital media. * Attend activities in order to market department's image. *Assist with the management and implementation of the department's brand working toward a consistent message and market-focused content. Mentor/supervise student interns who help provide advertising/marketing/social media support to the student organizations. This includes developing appropriate partnerships with academic partners (senior projects) and assisting students in development of their portfolios. * Assist with other DASA priorities as assigned.
Department Required Skills : * Proficiency with Adobe graphic design suite including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop; * Proficiency in Microsoft Office; * Experience with video and video editing software; * Experience with web content management systems; * Demonstrated knowledge of national trends and best practices in marketing and communications; * Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with initiative, critical and creative thinking; * Demonstrated ability to collaborate, develop partnerships and work effectively as a member of a fast-paced, results-oriented team; * Excellent written and verbal communication skills; * Demonstrated experience organizing and developing leaders through practical application and learning; * Demonstrated success managing, supervising, and mentoring student employees; * Demonstrated integrity, ethics, and commitment to diversity and inclusion; * Commitment to promoting healthy, active lifestyles.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Master's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or related field; * At least two years of progressively responsible professional experience in marketing; * Experience in higher education marketing setting.
