The Director of Development (DOD) for the Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) is a senior professional who works collaboratively with Dean of the Division of Undergraduate Education and with University Advancement (UA) to lead the development program of the Division and secure significant philanthropic investments to support it. The primary activity of the DOD is externally focused to secure private philanthropic support and the DOD's effectiveness will be evaluated on the ability to achieve financial goals and meet metrics. The DOD reports directly to the Dean, with a dotted line to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Constituent Development. The DOD is expected to serve as a member of the Dean's leadership team and to also be a highly collaborative colleague with other development officers across the campus. The Division of Undergraduate Education houses various academic student support programs with the goal of supporting and enriching the academic experiences of undergraduate students. Programs include: Antrepreneur Center, Academic Testing Center, Campuswide Honors Program, Capital Internship Programs, Campus Writing Coordinator, Civic and Community Engagement Minor, First-Year Integrated Program and New Student Seminars, International Peer Group, Learning and Academic Resource Center, Peer Academic Advising, Scholarship Opportunities Program, Student Support Services, Study Abroad Center, Teaching, Learning & Technology Center, Transfer Student Center, Undecided/Undeclared Advising Program, Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, and the UCI Writing Center,
Salary: Range $65,000 - $97,500
Work Schedule: 8-5, M-F

Job Essential Function 1
Percent of Time: 100%
Direct the implementation and coordination of a comprehensive unit-based development program by identifying, qualifying, cultivating and soliciting annual, major and planned gifts for the Division to meet the philanthropic objectives of the Division using the policies and procedures established by UA for best practices.
Oversee the recruitment, organization, training and support of a council of volunteers who will assist the Dean in raising funds on behalf of the Division.
Work routinely and closely with the Dean, support the Dean's fundraising priorities, and serve as a member of the Division s leadership team:
Work with the Dean and program managers to identify, assess and prioritize funding opportunities within the Division
Foster successful fundraising in the Division by preparing the Dean and other academic leaders to participate routinely and effectively in development activities and prospect appointments
Direct programs that encourage relationships with the Division s donors, prospects, and past program participants
Work collaboratively with campus Strategic Communications and events staff in order to advance and align the Division s image and reputation with its philanthropic constituencies
Oversee the Division s stewardship efforts using UA s systems for gift recording, reporting, and acknowledgments
Build the Division s pipeline of support:
Conducting at least 12 documented personal appointment contacts, per month
Qualifying 30-40 new major gift prospects through personal appointments, annually
Soliciting 24 major gift prospects, annually
Conducting 10-15 stewardship moves annually, including hand delivering stewardship reports
Securing $1 million in new gifts and commitments for the Division
Proactively manage a portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation prospects, developing and executing prospect strategies leading to solicitation and philanthropic investment:
Guided by the direction and scope of a prospect s interest, collaborate with various Division program managers and other UCI fundraisers to leverage their maximum philanthropic potential
Manage relationships with key private foundations by building relationships with UA foundation relations officers, ensure effective and timely gifts/grants management and stewardship, and develop and submit written proposals, budgets, and other collateral materials
Collaborate with various UA offices and functions -- including stewardship, research and prospect management, financial services, annual giving, and development to advance these prospect strategies and use the UA prospect management and tracking system
Participate, as a member of the UA constituent development team, in development activities on a campus level and serve as a resource to other unit-based development colleagues about the Division's fundraising opportunities
Plan and monitor an annual development operating budget
Work in a fast-paced, results oriented environment with complex and evolving relationships and priorities
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Bachelor's degree and five years successful professional development and/or fundraising related experience, preferably in higher education: OR, any equivalent combinations of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved.
Experience-based knowledge of principles and practices of fundraising for a comprehensive research university
Strong collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and by phone
Experienced in operating under a prospect moves-management system that utilizes a central database
Self-starter able to secure personal appointments and qualify a significant volume of new prospects
Collaborative in nature knowing that many donors interests involve multiple parts of the university
Documented success personally implementing sophisticated, multi-year cultivation strategies that leverage a relationship-building and moves-management approach leading to successful gift closure
Demonstrated achievement in securing philanthropic investments
Ability to work independently with both Division and institutional goals in mind
Problem solver who can take initiative and set priorities while being flexible
Team-oriented strategist able to effectively manage complex situations involving multiple and sometimes competing constituencies
Ability to represent the institution professionally, externally and internally
Ability to prepare complex and detailed proposals and related materials
Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties
Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Ellucian (Advance) or comparable a donor/prospect database system
Adept at navigating complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans
Demonstrable experience in stewardship plans leading to additional investments
Clarity of focus while juggling complex projects and/or deadlines. Ability to meet demanding work schedule expectations
Familiarity with Division of Undergraduate Education Programs
