Job Summary

Under the direction of the Windows Services Group Manager, provide system administration for the OIT's Active Directory environments and associated infrastructure servers running Microsoft Windows operating systems. In addition, serve as UC Irvine's lead technical authority for Active Directory services in operation by reviewing, assisting and advising on peripheral AD services on campus.


Assist in comprehensive multi-user system administration, network integration, and technical support for various Microsoft Windows services, Virtual Hosts and Storage Infrastructures on campus.


Identify/Anticipate needs, research, plan and implement Group Policies across OIT Managed environments to provide consistency, reliability and security.


Salary: Range $73,500 - $107,100

Work Schedule: 8-5, M-F

Assure all servers/services adhere to HIPPA-related policies as required.
Working with the Desktop Support Services group, lead efforts to maintain Managed Service environments in Active Directory.
Play a leading role in server-side efforts to assess and plan migration of departments to a single domain with unified images and policies.
As needed, fulfill Active Directory account creation requests.
Periodically audit Active Directory objects to assure objects are valid, contain accurate information and are in the correct OU container.  
Assure UC policy is observed in the creation, maintenance and retirement of Active Directory objects within OIT's AD environments.
Identify, document and determine appropriate course of action for specialized departmental servers, services and needs.
Independently work with internal resources and lead efforts to maintain a centrally consolidated domain environment.  
Adhere to standard UC policies and practice within OIT's central Data Center, VM and Storage Environments.
Ensure the proper delivery of electronic mail messages, monitor system resource usage, and investigate discovered problems.
Perform as system administrator lead to oversee the operations of department-level Exchange Mail services.
Identify, document and determined appropriate course of action for specialized departmental servers, services and needs.
Establish required service levels and monitor systems for proper operation and performance following generally accepted best practices.
Ensure that system security, file system integrity, and system operation are monitored and maintained.
Determine the need for additional or replacement hardware, generate requirements and coordinate with vendors to determine purchase options.
Advise supervisor and colleagues of technical issues that affect services or support of other clients.
Maintain a clear understanding of policies and procedures associated with administration and access of sensitive information.  
Work with the Office of Information Technology.

Identify and assist in standardization and automation of processes within Managed Services.
Explore and employ tools to assist in automation processes.  
Maintain a centrally-accessible library of scripts used for projects and ongoing processes by WSG administrators.
Independently create and lead detailed project implementation plans through all phases of planning.
Act as the lead in communicating status on projects to stakeholders, user base and management.
Independently collaborate with all areas of OIT and vendor dependencies to assure needed resources for project success are identified and reserved for availability prior to project implementation.
Lead in efforts to pilot new technologies, services and policies associated with items offered in the OIT service catalog.
Maintain detailed documentation pertaining to testing efforts within piloting and exploration projects.
Five (5) to ten (10) years with BA/BS OR three (3) to five (5) years with MA/MSMS or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Significant knowledge of PC hardware and software with an emphasis on current Microsoft operating systems.
Significant knowledge of enterprise networking, including TCP/IP, Ethernet.
Experience in installing and administering Microsoft operating systems.
Advanced level technical, analytical, organizational and troubleshooting skills.
Demonstrated ability to independently lead projects, project teams and maintain project documentation for large scale assignments.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing technologies and priorities.
Demonstrated skills in patch management tools and administration.
Demonstrated skills to complete projects in an organized and timely manner.
Demonstrated skills to work and contribute effectively within a team environment and pass on technical knowledge to other team members.
Demonstrated advance knowledge in Active Directory and Group Policy.
Demonstrated advance knowledge in Powershell scripting.
Demonstrated experience with VMWare Virtual environment administration and VMWare Virtual.
Consolidated Backup services.
Five years' experience in Microsoft server administration.
Knowledge of medical software.
Knowledge of Video Recording Systems.
Knowledge of Linux and Unix operating systems.
Experience with Electronic medical records software.
Experience in administration of enterprise storage devices and services.
Experience with large-scale migrations of Active Directory, Operating System version and
Exchange mailboxes.
Experience with Microsoft System Center services.
