Summary

The college is seeking a dynamic individual with proven teaching skill and leadership ability to join our team of instructors in Adult Basic Education. Adult Basic Education is among the largest departments on campus, and its innovative offerings, including Project IDEA, I-BEST, and High School 21+, have become increasingly popular. As an instructor in ABE, you will work with student-centered colleagues in all areas of basic skills as well as with instructors in developmental math, English, and other academic departments. The Adult Basic Education Department develops and delivers courses aligned with the Washington State Learning Standards and intended to meet student needs including skill development, high school completion, workforce preparedness and college transition. The successful applicant will take part in college activities; advise students; mentor part-time faculty; assist with the operation of the ABE Department and Academic Support Center; and assist with program management. This position reports to the Dean of Instruction – Academic Core.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in adult basic education or related field preferred
  • Two years recent college teaching experience in adult basic education or related field using various teaching methods preferred
  • Experience writing and implementing curricula strongly preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills
  • Experience using technology in the classroom; knowledge of educational software
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students, staff, and community from diverse backgrounds, including native languages, and a commitment to a culturally diverse work environment
