The Department of English at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth seeks ten Full-Time Lecturers for our First-Year English program faculty, with five positions to begin January 1, 2015 and five positions to begin September 1, 2015. UMass Dartmouth is on the south coast of Massachusetts, less than an hour’s drive from Boston, Providence, and Cape Cod. The university’s strategic plan positions us as a research university while continuing to provide excellent undergraduate education. These newly created positions represent an administrative commitment to and investment in writing as the cornerstone of an undergraduate education. Lecturers’ primary responsibilities will be to teach in the two-semester sequence of First-Year English and engage in student advising. Lecturers with appropriate training may also be asked to teach courses in Business Communications, Technical Communications, Writing for the Sciences, and Intermediate Composition or General Education Literature. Candidates with an interest and experience in curriculum design, assessment practices, and/or composition pedagogy are particularly invited to apply. These newly established positions have a 4/4 course-load, are contracted and benefited, and have access to on-going professional development and department service opportunities. Contracts are for two years and are renewable. Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in English or closely related field. Experience (at least 2 years) and demonstrated success with college/university-level teaching required. Ph.D. in English or closely related field or Ph.D. in Rhetoric/Composition preferred. ABD considered. Experience in any of the following areas will be a plus: blended/online learning; ESL/multilingual learner instruction; teaching developmental writing.
