GENERAL DUTIES

Counsels applicants and students on eligibility for financial aid programs, assisting them in the application process.

- Verifies eligibility for Federal and State financial aid programs including grants, scholarships, and guaranteed student loans.

- Performs application intake, evaluation, processing and awarding.

- Assists in the production of Financial Aid online print material and websites.

- Advises students on good academic standing requirements and the appeal process; reviews appeals for dependency overrides and budget adjustments.

- Conducts group workshops and represents the financial aid office at various on- and off- campus events.

- Serves as a liaison between the college office and Direct Loan Providers.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Financial Aid Counselor reports to the Director of Financial Aid and is responsible for advising and providing financial aid information (federal, state, city, and institutional) to students and their families.

The responsibilities include:

-Provide ongoing comprehensive overall financial aid counseling to students and families.
-Review, verify, and correct financial aid information (Federal and State).
-Represent the financial aid office at meetings (on and off campus). 
-Participate in workshops and orientation.
-Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
-Supervise college assistants and part-time staff.
-Perform other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's Degree required. Two years experience in student financial aid (verification and counseling) and knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations, financial aid process, and systems (CUNYfirst, UAPC, SFA) are preferred.  Strong customer service skills with demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts and solve problems are essential along with excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of standard office software, student database/on-line systems are desirable.  The ability to work some evenings and weekends are required.

COMPENSATION

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
