Position Information:
The UC Riverside Undergraduate Admissions office is seeking an Admissions Specialist responsible for the evaluation and tracking of prospective and admitted athletes and serves as the central point of contact between Undergraduate Admissions and Intercollegiate Athletics during the recruitment process. This position supports a shared responsibility with Intercollegiate Athletics that if not properly controlled or completed could result in significant negative media reports and financial penalties for UC Riverside. In addition to the above duties, the Admission Specialist will also represent UCR Undergraduate Admissions by providing oversight at various programs and events; participating in school visits, college fairs, consortium travel, and conferences for both the freshman and transfer population. As an official representative of the University, the incumbent will travel within the United States to recruit prospective and admitted students and is available to students, families, the campus community, and the general public to interpret, enforce and explain University policies and regulations. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for all phases of admission evaluation of freshman and transfer applicants based on self-reported information, official transcripts, and other pertinent documents. Minimum Requirements:
-Bachelor's degree in a related field and significant experience as a professional or advanced professional-level student affairs officer or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of college education and experience.
-General knowledge of curricula, articulation, transcripts and grading systems for high schools and two and four-year institutions.
-Demonstrated undergraduate experience in: a) recruitment of prospective students; b) evaluating applications, transcripts, and supplemental documentation; and c) making admission decisions on prospective applicants to include full consideration of academic records and subjective criteria.
-Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing by organizing and delivering oral presentations that are concise, informative and appropriate to the audience while maintaining an appropriate University image.
-Demonstrated experience coordinating all aspects of a multi-faceted, fast-paced operation and in developing original solutions to challenges in order to meet established deadlines.
-Ability to interact diplomatically with faculty, administrators, staff and individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds, organizational levels, and groups with different goals.
-Demonstrated ability to comprehend complex UC and UCR rules, to analyze the details and then to interpret rules.
-Ability to articulate policies and procedures to university administrators, parents, students, school counselors and the general public either in person, email, telephone, on a one-to-one basis, or in a group setting while maintaining confidentiality at all times.
-Ability to be flexible and capable of dealing with change, ambiguity and seemingly contradictory or inconsistent policies.
-Ability to work independently while using sound judgment in applying, or developing solutions to problems.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Demonstrated experience traveling to recruit undergraduate students.
-Demonstrated experience working with a student information system.
-Experience in researching, developing and scheduling recruitment activities to realize efficiencies.
-Experience using an online evaluation tool.
-Experience developing strategic plans and Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
-Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate statistical data and policy.
