Position Information:
Reporting to the CFAO and in support of college initiatives as defined by the dean and divisional deans, incumbent will initiate and manage the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a communications and advancement program for the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS) to encompass its constituent 13 departments and 12 centers and institutes. Develop and maintain an effective integrated marketing program for the internal and external Campus audiences, ensuring wide-spread representation of College research, activities, and accomplishments. Create written communications for the purpose of enhancing CNAS' reputation through marketing and media relation venues. Serve as the general marketing and communication relations contact for CNAS to promote key initiatives, respond to requests for information, gather and analyze information for publications. Act as College liaison with the Campus central offices of Strategic Communications and Governmental and Community Relations on matters concerning governmental and community relations and to ensure wide-spread recognition of important events, accomplishments, etc.

Incumbent coordinates publications of brochures, announcements, and quarterly newsletter for CNAS, including gathering information, writing, editing, layout, and proofreading. Work with College departments to prepare/provide brochures to be used for recruitment and advertising/public relations. Serve as photographer as needed for publications and on the website. Maintain website news briefs and proofread or write copy as needed to keep information current.

Supervise other staff on the communications team.

Minimum Requirements:
1 Bachelor's degree with a major in journalism, communications, marketing, or other related fields, and minimum of four years demonstrated professional writing ability; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2 Demonstrated expert-level skills in developing, writing, editing and producing print and electronic communications.
3 Demonstrated expert-level skills in interpreting and writing about science or technical subjects for the lay public.
4 Demonstrable expert-level skills in graphic design including expertise in Adobe Design Suite. Also, experience in developing and updating websites; knowledge of current web applications and technologies.
5 Experience with design, development, and coordination of publications.
6 Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with scientists and academicians.
7 Advanced skill in developing and updating websites. Knowledge of current web applications and technologies. Also, advanced skills in using word processing, spreadsheet, desktop publishing, and presentation applications.
8 Strong organizational skills, project management skills, including ability to manage multiple assignments and competing priorities while meeting strict deadlines.
9 Expert-level skills in public relations and communications concepts and techniques. Also, experience in public speaking, speechwriting, and creating presentation materials.
10 Experience with organizing and implementing special events.
Preferred Qualifications:
1 Earned Bachelor's degree with a major in journalism, communications, marketing, or other related fields.
2 Master's degree with a major in journalism, communications, marketing, or other related fields.
3 Previous experience in university setting. Demonstrated understanding of the academic and research environment with the complexity of a higher education institution.
4 Knowledge of UCR organizational structure, policies, and procedures.
5 Experience with supervision of professional staff.
