Officer-Corporate & Foundation Advancement

Requisition Number:

University Advancement

Full Time

Position Summary:
Exceptional opportunity to join a team of committed and accomplished development professionals at a leading research institution on the rise. Located in the heart of Boston and lauded for its academic rigor and Co-op Program, Northeastern University is gaining considerable attention and momentum as an innovative leader in higher education. Ranked among the top 50 universities in the nation, Northeastern recently launched Empower: The Campaign for Northeastern—the most ambitious fundraising effort in its history—that will enhance substantially the university’s capacity for influence and impact.
The role of the Officer, Corporate and Foundation Advancement is to serve as a link between the university and the corporate and foundation community—establishing and retaining relationships for the university at multiple levels. The Officer achieves this by developing, implementing, and coordinating outreach, communications, and solicitation strategies for the university in its work in select areas.
The primary mission of this role is to obtain financial and other support for the university. The activities required to pursue this goal include:
- building bridges and relationships between the university and targeted corporate and foundation funders;
• working with faculty and research administration to develop and submit proposals for funding;
• developing strategies to advance the university’s mission by leveraging funding opportunities; and
• stewarding existing grants while also providing faculty with funder-related guidance.
The Officer works closely with the College of Professional Studies and the University Libraries on corporate and foundation outreach. The Officer may also work with other major business units on corporate or foundation outreach (e.g., the College of Science and corporations or the D’Amore-McKim School of Business and foundations), as well as on other initiatives as assigned by the Associate Vice President. The projects identified for potential funding include college-specific programs, as well as interdisciplinary initiatives.
This position requires a balance between strategic, long-term relationship management and the ability to derive ongoing benefit to the university. The role serves as a single point of contact for strategic relationship planning and coordination. Interactions with faculty and other key partners occur almost on a daily basis. The incumbent interfaces with personnel at foundations and corporations. This is accomplished through personal visits, telephone calls, e-mail, or written correspondence.

- Bachelor’s Degree is required; Master’s or other professional degree preferred;
• Seven to ten (7-10) years of front line fundraising experience;
• Expertise in raising funds for higher education;
• Excellent writing skills;
• Ability to communicate and interface effectively with corporate and foundation representatives, as well as with university stakeholders;
• Ability to think and plan strategically;
• High level of self-motivation;
• A strong interest in being a member of a highly interactive and mutually supportive team;
• Customer-oriented training and focus; and
• High follow-up and responsiveness.
