Position Information:
Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Technology Partnerships, the Director for Industry and Research Relations, aligns activities with the vision, goals and priorities of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development, providing high level support and counsel, managing prospects, working with central development on partner strategy, and serving as liaison with appropriate campus departments (colleges, schools, student affairs, extension, etc.) to provide "one-stop" contact for high level corporate partners. Provides counsel to the deans/directors and college/school/program-based development directors in the cultivation and solicitation of corporations. Works with the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, Associate Vice Chancellor and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Development and the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development to develop and coordinate comprehensive campaigns for the campus, designated high priorities for research, including but not limited to CE-CERT, Genomics, School of Medicine, Conservation Biology, CIS, Arts Block, Stem Cell Center, Public Policy Initiative, and others. Coordinates with other campus units to help companies find interns, employees, and continuous education opportunities, to sign research contracts, to license technology. The responsibilities of the Director for Industry and Research Relations primarily focus on interdisciplinary centers, but may impact all organizational units on campus relative to private corporate support cultivation and solicitation activities. The Director for Industry and Research Relations is also expected to be visible with the UCR extended community. This is a two-year, renewable contract position which includes the same employee benefits afforded career employees.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a related field. Advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for comprehensive corporate engagement strategies with research universities.

Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of a major research institutions including sponsored research, philanthropy, and commercialization.

4-6 years' experience in higher education, preferably in fundraising or research administration

Deep understanding of academic, research and education functions and operation principles of a major research university.

Experience and success in collaborating in a complex development program within a major university.

Proven experience in the full spectrum of corporate engagement including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of partners.

Strong sense of ethical conduct that will inspire confidence and motivation with the proven ability to persuade colleagues and donor prospects, while maintaining confidentiality in all matters as they relate to sensitive donor relations issues.

Ability to design and implement a cohesive industry engagement program.

Ability to direct the design of strategies for cultivation and solicitation of prospective partner organizations.

Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with deans and directors, academic and University leaders and volunteers to achieve revenue generation goals.

Ability to work effectively in devising, analyzing, modifying, implementing, and evaluating programs.

Skill in communicating persuasively, both orally and in writing, about corporate partnerships with universities in general and in particular as it applies to UCR.

Established expertise in creating and mobilizing issue and project-oriented coalitions.

Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills including the ability to work effectively with individuals from various status ranks from diverse institutional and community sectors to achieve common objectives.

Successful experience using a broad range of communication methods to shape management initiatives and build alliances and partnerships.

Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree.

Knowledge of a broad range of academic and institutional issues related to a major research university environment.

Experience establishing multifaceted corporate strategies that include sponsored research, gifts, or licensing of intellectual property.

Experience with fundraising in capital and comprehensive campaigns.
