Job Description: The UF/IFAS social media communications manager is responsible for overseeing an IFAS-wide social media strategy across all internal units and platforms. The incumbent coordinates with media relations, marketing, web, and video leaders to maximize communication reach in support of the IFAS mission. The position involves ensuring that UF/IFAS social media communications are fully integrated with all other efforts across the organization's portfolio. Research and strategy: track fast-changing world of social and digital media and competition, provide benchmarks and analyze data to inform decision-making and ensure campaign goals are met, implement best practices strategy to communicate with varied audiences on varied platforms. Social media account management: content creation and curation, review news desk for use on social media channels, examine other units' content for general audience consumption, audience engagement, review and respond to posts/tweets/messages on platforms as appropriate, monitor and increase audience engagement, target journalists and media with relevant content, create and maintain relationships with journalists, legislators and other important opinion leaders, maintain core UF/IFAS social media site(s) including the description, profile picture, cover photo, etc., collaborate with the UF/IFAS Communications web writer to ensure that Extension social media topics/postings are complementary. Social media content development: develop and implement the social media campaigns for UF/IFAS, brainstorm and develop ideas for original content, including edited video and photos, memes, infographics, live event coverage, and promotional activities. Collaborate with graphics, photography, video, and web teams to develop content. Outreach and education: advocate within IFAS for outstanding social media standards including brand consistency, monitor and assist IFAS social media sites with appropriate conduct and compliance with brand identity standards, contribute to external groups' social media optimization and best practices, update and maintain training guides, approval checklist, and other social media documents, cross train and mentor interns and student assistants as appropriate, maintain relationships with other UF social media specialists. The normal work schedule is 40 hours per week, usually 8:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday. Some flexibility is expected regarding schedule on a regular basis to meet deadlines and oversee off-hours production system issues. Availability to work remotely or from alternate locations as needed is also expected. Some travel may be required for professional development and/or meetings with IFAS clients across the state.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
Preferred Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, social media, business, or similar, and two years of relevant experience is preferred. Demonstrated experience in social and digital media, which includes the ability to measure social media presence, is also preferred.
