Working Title: Student Computing Specialist

Posting Information: The Western Carolina University Division of Information Technology is looking for a multi-talented, forward thinking, Technology Support Specialist who will become a member of the Instructional Technology and Desktop Services (ITDS) department. This position will serve as a front line technical support resource responsible for supporting the mobile devices, personal computers, applications and network services used by students at WCU. Position will lead staff that makes up the Student Computing team and will report to the Manager of the Technology Commons & Student Computing team. Position will work with the ITDS Project Management Manager to lead and/or work on ITDS projects and participate in other projects within the Division of IT.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements: Graduation from a two year technical college with a major in computer science, information technology or related area and one year in the information technology field related to the position?s role; or graduation from a four year college or university and one year experience in the information technology field related to the position?s role; or graduation from a four year college or university with a major in computer science or information technology or related degree. Related information technology experience may be substituted year for year for the required education.

Preferred Qualifications: - 2 years of experience supporting Apple and Microsoft PC platforms - 2 years of experience supporting Apple and Microsoft software applications including the latest operating systems and Office/iWork software packages - Proven successful ability to work effectively under pressure where conditions require the ability to handle multiple tasks and varying priorities - Prior experience working for an IT support organization in a technical capacity - Ability to research and learn new skills and technologies as needed and at a rapid pace - Knowledge and experience with software imaging - Experience with Project Management principles and processes - Experience with Cherwell Service Management application - Experience with Anti-virus software
