Description


Perform under minimal supervision a wide variety of complex tasks requiring practical understanding of scientific techniques and advanced knowledge of scientific theory.

Key Functions and Expected Performances:
  1. Under minimal supervision, plan, conduct and evaluate experiments and assays of varying complexity.
    1. Plan and coordinate experiments in conjunction with Principal Investigator (PI).
    2. Understand and follow experimental protocols (may include animal handling, tissue culture, etc.)
    3. Record, compile, interpret, and communicate data/results.
    4. Follow University safety protocols (may include use of combustibles, radioactivity, toxic material, and/or carcinogens)
    5. Perform calculations involving molarity, % solutions, and serial dilutions.
  2. Prepare, operate and troubleshoot equipment in experimental procedures.
    1. Recommend equipment and supplies needed for research projects.
    2. Read and follow all equipment manuals.
    3. Maintain and repair equipment according to manufacturer and University guidelines.
  3. Ensure laboratory is prepared for experiments.
    1. Maintain inventories.
    2. Maintain sterile conditions as required.
    3. Prepare reagents.
  4. Assist PI in modifying procedures and techniques.
    1. Recognize problems and suggest solutions, assist in modifications.
    2. Recommend improvements to established techniques and/or protocols.
    3. Maintain personal knowledge of scientific trends through literature reviews, attendance at meetings, conferences and seminars.
  5. Provide appropriate written/oral documentation of experiments
    1. Prepare research progress reports.
    2. Analyze and summarize test results.
    3. Preparation and oral presentation of data as required
  6. Assist in the effective operation of the laboratory.
    1. Train other employees.
    2. Supervise projects and/or personnel.


Basic Qualifications


Job requires Bachelor's and 4 years of experience or the equivalent.
