Position Summary: The College of Pharmacy invites applications for a part time (.30 FTE), 12-month, Staff Pharmacist.

The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care, filling and dispensing prescriptions to patients, and other daily pharmacy tasks, as required, in the operation of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) Pharmacy or Acheson Teaching Hospital Pharmacy. This position also serves as an instructor to the College of Pharmacy for Pharmacy Practice 795 series course and participates in clinical instruction in the College of Veterinary Medicine. This position will also require the staff pharmacist to be on-call for pharmacy services during nonbusiness hours, specifically, to provide the VTH emergency care and/or hospital necessities, when appropriate. This position also requires the staff pharmacist to work weekend hours.
This individual works closely with the Director of the VTH Pharmacy to provide pharmaceutical care to veterinary hospital patients. This employee also participates in the college's educational programs in his/her area of expertise, specifically, with P4 pharmacy rotation students. This position also requires the person to be available for on-call emergency backup services to provide a needed medication and/or VTH pharmacy related matters, when appropriate. This position will involve weekend work and pharmacist personnel vacation coverage. The employee will also become familiar with automated dispensing machines and all VTH pharmacy procedural operations.

Position Duties: 80% PHARMACEUTICAL CARE: Responsible for the day to day professional operation of the VTH Pharmacy. This includes, but is not limited to, provision of pharmaceutical care for eligible patients, dispensing prescriptions to patients, patient counseling and consultations with veterinary staff and students; setting professional standards; quality assurance; pharmacy purchasing; and accounting and record keeping.

10% COMMUNICATION/RESEARCH: Provides drug information to patients, staff, and other faculty as requested. May collaborate in research, including clinical drug investigations and controls medication administration and drug distribution in patient-care areas.

5% TEACHING: Serves as instructor/preceptor for College of Pharmacy Practice 795 series course. Will instruct veterinary students, house officers and pharmacy students during clinical service assignments.

5% SERVICE: All faculty are expected to serve on college and/or university committees and to contribute to the mission of Oregon State University. May serve on the Infectious Disease Control Committee and the Pharmacy Committee as needed.

Minimum/Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy, or a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm. D.)

Eligibility for licensure as a pharmacist in Oregon.

Must be CPR certified or certified by date of hire.

Eligible to be licensed as a preceptor.

Excellent communication skills.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OAR 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications: Demonstrated knowledge of veterinary pharmacy compounding or pharmacy compounding experience.

One year or more of experience in veterinary pharmacy hospital practice.
