To ensure increased career development planning and assessment for the Ludlow Area Adult Learning Center.
Two positions available (1 day, 1 evening)
DUTIES:Provides one-on-one career assessment, development, planning, and counseling services to a diverse population at an off-campus adult learning center. Facilitates development of individual student career plans and maintains individual education and career files. Conducts workshops on career exploration, goal setting, job search, and other career-related topics as needed. Uses industry career maps and career pathways into select high-growth industry sectors in providing career services that include using computerized and print resources for exploring careers, identifying relevant training programs, preparing program applications, and seeking financial assistance. Provides workshops and/or one-on-one assistance with completion of job application forms, resume writing, preparation of cover and thank-you letters, and interview techniques. Coordinates and communicates student progress with ABE instructors. Collaborates with One-Stop Career Center to promote career-related workshops. Makes referrals to appropriate agencies (educational, training, employment, etc.) Maintains walk-in resource materials for students and community members. Compiles appropriate student/community member data for reporting and assessment purposes by Holyoke Community College and its partners. Collects student goal information related to Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Adult Basic Education Countable Outcomes If possible, provides career advising services in Portuguese, Spanish, Polish, Russian, Turkish or other language spoken by students. Provides, collects, and analyzes evaluation forms completed by students using the services of the Career Center. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field; three years experience in career development/transition; experience in higher education; experience conducting career workshops; ability to evaluate, audit, deduce, and/or assess data using established criteria; strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student population.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in related discipline; familiarity with web-based media tools; bilingual in English and another language (Spanish preferred)

STARTING DATE: September, 2014
HOURS: Daytime position: 16 hrs/wk, 4 days/wk, 9 am-1pm (includes 1.5 hrs/wk staff and professional development).
Evening position: 13.5 hrs/wk, 12 hrs/wk, 3 evenings (5:30pm-9:30pm), plus 1.5 hrs/wk staff and professional development.
