Position Focus: Yale University's Security Department provides physical and electronic security services to the Yale community making the environment on campus a safe as possible. The Systems division of the department is responsible for the physical security systems including access control, closed circuit video, intrusion alarm and many others. In addition to the systems hardware, there is also a monitoring component that also falls under Systems. The purpose of this role is to assist in managing the systems, oversight of design and installation, as well as interfacing with Yale Systems operators and security vendors. The Physical Security Systems Manager reports to the Associate Director of Security Systems and will work in an ever changing environment and may have to work flexible hours on occasion. This position will direct Central Alarm Station monitoring officers, security vendors and fellow team members in proper protocol and best practice to systems management/response. Will coordinate new, customer-driven security projects from inception to commissioning.
Principal Responsibilities 1. Designs, develops and implements scalable solutions for security system installations, upgrades, repairs and change outs.
2. Researches and tests new security technologies, systems, equipment, components and products.
3. Provides recommendation for technology enhancements and improvements and perform due diligence in assessing new technology solutions, including cost and budget preparation.
4. Oversight of all aspects of the University access control systems which includes planning, design, installation and maintenance for new and existing clients.
5. Establishes and implements effective, predictable and measureable processes and procedures.
6. Develops and delivers progress reports, proposals, requirements documentations and presentations.
7. Oversees systems integration functions, working with and providing direction to outside consultants.
8. Suggests areas for improvements in internal processes by remaining on the forefront of emerging industry best practices on security systems.
9. May perform other duties as assigned.Required Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree and five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1: Strong leadership, supervisory, problem solving, team-building, and customer service skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to manage up. Extensive background in electronic security systems.
Required Skill/Ability 2: Strong and demonstrated ability to lead and work calmly, effectively and flexibly in an ever changing environment with a diverse group of colleagues and customers. Strong people management skills, proven ability to work unsupervised and exercise sound, independent judgment.
Required Skill/Ability 3: Strongly demonstrated ability to explain and train complex issues in simple lay terms, and to give instructions to individuals with widely diverse skill sets and abilities. Proven skills in diagnosing, troubleshooting and mitigating all security systems issues with team members and contractors.
Required Skill/Ability 4: Ability to work on and prioritize a wide variety of tasks simultaneously. Strongly demonstrated ability to handle complex designs, accuracy, and ability to pay attention to detail.
Required Skill/Ability 5: Will work in heavy IT environment and must have proven experience in network theory/design and field recognition of network hardware.Candidate must have proven ability in recognizing security system design, components, integration techniques and be able to diagnose and troubleshoot same system.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Experience working with large access control systems, intrusion systems, and IP based video management systems. IT experience and understanding of network infrastructure. Excellent knowledge of Excel, Access, Word and Windows.
Preferred Licenses or Certifications: L-6 Electrical License.
