Position Summary: The Program in Mathematics Education (PRIME) in the College of Natural Science at Michigan State University is seeking a tenure-system faculty member at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. This position is devoted to research on mathematics curriculum broadly-construed, for example (but not limited to) curriculum development, studies of curricular effects on learning, or teachers' interpretation of curriculum. Depending on the interests and background of the applicant, a joint faculty appointment in PRIME and another department such as Teacher Education may be negotiated. MSU is nationally-known for the development of innovative mathematics curriculum, such as the Connected Mathematics Project and the University of Chicago School Mathematics Program. Interest in research related to these existing curricula would be especially welcome. The successful candidate will join the world-class mathematics education community at Michigan State University, including faculty members from the Colleges of Education and Natural Science and the CREATE for STEM Institute who jointly direct and teach in the new and nationally ranked PRIME doctoral program. Requirements include an earned doctorate, a strong background in mathematics or statistics, and a sustained record of scholarship on issues of teaching, learning, assessment, or policy related to mathematics curricula. Candidates are expected to have a successful record of externally-funded research projects, guidance of graduate students, and national leadership in mathematics or statistics education. All candidates are expected to have a demonstrated commitment to and record of excellent teaching.
