Description


Perform professional work requiring advanced application and use of concepts, theories, principles, practices, regulations, and terminology of accounting. Analyze and review financial data and prepare financial statements and reports for both internal and external purposes consistent with a comprehensive understanding of Institutional mission and vision, the role and goals of the business unit and consistent with an understanding of academic and healthcare accounting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), applicable regulations, and University policies and procedures. Guidelines and procedures are established on a global basis and an advanced level of professional judgment is required.

Key Functions and Expected Performances:
  1. Participate regularly in process improvement teams under indirect supervision and oversight. May perform leadership role in intermediate level process improvement projects.

  2. Evaluate and recommend improvements in accounting system procedures to ensure accurate application of accounting principles.

  4. Project/calculate accounting data to show the effects of proposals on capital investments, income, cash positions, and overall financial condition

  5. Reconcile highly complex transactions and accounts
    1. complete and maintain timely reconciliations
    2. prepare journal and closing entries
    3. create general ledger accounts
    4. prepare complex entries in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and other applicable regulations
  6. Approve and verify transactions in various financial systems
    1. consistent with a comprehensive understanding of Institutional mission and vision
    2. use generally accepted accounting principles and other applicable regulations
  7. Format, design, and prepare financial reports and schedules to meet the needs of a variety of internal and external users
    1. consistent with Financial Management formatting standards
    2. able to prepare complex reports and schedules
  8. Responsible for full charge general ledger accounting and financial reporting of multiple VHS affiliates
    1. including forecasts and budgets
    2. preparation of Excel financial statement packages
    3. prepare Board of Director packages
    4. physician compensation calculations, tax package preparation
    5. work with operations management and VHS Finance Management/Leaders on special projects

Successful candidate will have proven track record being:

  • a motivated professional with excellent communication skills
  • comfortable working independently but keeping Supervisor well informed
  • comfortable presenting financial results in a clear, concise manner to various audiences, including leadership
  • able to meet tight reporting deadlines by coordinating workload accordingly
  • willing to work with the VHS Team as projects and/or workload require
  • proficient in Quick Books
  • knowledgeable of Vanderbilt general ledger and other VU systems


Basic Qualifications


Job requires Bachelor's and 4 years of experience or the equivalent.
