In today's highly demanding and sophisticated healthcare environments, we can no longer simply assume that more (or improved) training or education classes will automatically produce improved performance.  While training will always remain an essential component of optimal performance, it is still only one of multiple elements required for the achievement of superior results.  Performance consulting is significantly different than instructional design or traditional training in that it requires the ability to apply instructional best practices to learning challenges in a way that produces measurable workforce performance results. The ideal candidate will be proactive, entrepreneurial, comfortable with high levels of team collaboration and intensely interested in creating great training and learning platforms.

Key Functions and Expected Performances:

Provides oversight to and develops instructional design materials and processes.

  • Collaborates with SMEs, manager of learning systems, coordinator of learning systems, and LMS administrators to develop instructional material, coordinates, writes and edits instructional content, and incorporates current technology for educators developing specific curricula.
  • Performs design, development, execution and evaluation of courseware for print, web, classroom and on-the-job training materials based on business needs.       
  • Evaluates and confirms learning objectives through ongoing needs assessment sessions.            
  • Develops course descriptions and related course-specific marketing documents and tools.        

 Provides subject matter experts with knowledge of best practices for instructional design and technology based education.

  • Serves as consultant to medical center colleagues on all aspects of instructional design to advance learning.             
  • Participates in the needs assessment, design and development of produce and role specific curriculum road maps and high-level designs.    
  • Interacts with SMEs in planning and scoping requirements for curriculum.           
  • Functions on curriculum teams and independently in the design, development, and testing of instructional materials. 

Determines appropriate use of instructional technology

  • Leads selection of instructional media, materials, and equipment to meet learning objectives.  
  • Evaluates instructional technology options and determines the optimal solution based on the content area and information system factors.   
  •  Instructs clients on procedures, processes, methods of operating, maintaining, revising and enhancing the training methodology.    
  • Participates in beta deliveries of new courses.  
  • Contributes to storyboarding, authoring, and development of e-learning content and blended learning solutions.

Partner with and coach a dynamic team of workforce educators to improve delivery strategies related to performance and business improvement goals

  • Be systematic in the assessment of a performance improvement opportunity, analysis of the behavior, work and workplace to identify the cause or factors that limit performance, design of the solution or solution requirements, development of all or some of the solution and its elements, implementation of the solution, and evaluation of the process and the results

This position requires a Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience or the equivalent.

Preferred Skills, Education and Experiences:

  • Strong knowledge of theories related to instructional design, Human Performance Technology  and standard instructional evaluation methods. Experience in instructional design/delivery and utilizing adult learning principles in educational  delivery .
  • Entrepreneurial attitude and approach.  A demonstrated capacity to creatively pursue new opportunities, develop product and system improvements and find efficiencies.
  • Ability and desire to work with internal audiences toward performance improvement. A high level of customer orientation.
  • A customer service orientation; able to serve internal audiences by being the go-to source for effective reporting and technical solutions; and to interact with external consultants in ensuring work quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple streams of work within deadlines.
  • Able to use and manipulate web and e-technology.
  • Proven ability to navigate obstacles, influence change and establish priorities in an ambiguous environment.


Basic Qualifications

This position requires a Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience or the equivalent.
