Institutional Equity Coordinator
Michigan State University Institutional Equity Coordinator Michigan State University seeks an energetic, conscientious, and thoughtful individual to serve as Institutional Equity Coordinator in the Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives. The selected candidate will provide assistance to the office to ensure University compliance with federal and state civil rights laws and regulations, including University-wide anti-discrimination policy (ADP) and procedures; will investigate less complex and assists with more complex investigations of formal and informal discrimination and harassment complaints; provides and assists in providing effective resolution of such claims; supports the development and implementation of training programs which enhance equitable treatment and strengthen a supportive university environment; assists in coordinating the ongoing development and implementation of university-wide affirmative action and diversity programs in the office. Minimum Requirements: Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through completion of a master's degree in labor and industrial relations, human resources, psychology, sociology, social work, or other relevant field of study; one year of related and progressively more responsible work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired Qualifications: One to three years or related and progressively more responsible work experience that includes interviewing skills acquired through knowledge of qualitative research methods, or actual qualitative research, or discrimination complaint investigation, mediation, and conflict resolution in a university setting or equivalently complex organization; working knowledge of civil rights laws and familiarity with administrative law hearing processes; proficiency in legal and business software applications, conducting presentations, and public speaking; effective interviewing skills; ability to work effectively under pressure and with difficult situations that involve multiple parties; self-motivation, maturity, and the ability to work efficiently and adhere to deadlines; strong written and verbal communications skills, including effective intercultural communications skills.
