The position Senior Laboratory Safety Specialist is within the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Department that reports to the Environmental and Emergency Management Office. This individual will serve as a primary EHS, Senior contact providing expertise and services to direct and develop a wide range of day to day safety and compliance related support functions to support research activities, personal safety, health and risk assessments, safety trainings, laboratory inspections and other best safety practice programs for campus operations. The Senior Lab Safety Specialist develops, implements and or supports EHS program requirements for specialized research laboratories on campus. As assigned, serves as the EHS liaison between researcher and laboratory occupancies and Operation & Services (O&S) staff regarding, compliance, safety systems and laboratory equipment components such as clean room operations, toxic gas monitoring and control systems (TGMCS), fume hoods, toxic gas cabinets, LN2 tank, emergency response, etc. A building of primary services includes the SAAB-ETIC building that supports research occupancies for nanofabrication, clean rooms, ancillary research support space, conventional labs for Imaging, electron microscopy; materials for biological/optical, fiber technologies, etc. This position further coordinates all building safety operations and activities in specialized research and undergraduate laboratories to ensure that EHS services its community to a maximum safety and regulatory compliant extent. Minimum Qualifications (Required): -B.S. in Environmental Health, Chemistry, Biology, Science, safety related discipline, or equivalent -Five to seven years experience working with environmental health and safety programs; Nano, clean room, toxic gas cylinders and cabinets, chemical, biological laboratories and components experience -Require strong working knowledge of EHS regulations, with primary emphasis on OSHA laboratory compliance -Knowledge of NFPA, CDC, and DEP/EPA regulations -Must have excellent communications skills, operational level expertise to implement EH&S programs -The ability to work effectively with diverse groups -Demonstrated ability to work independently, cooperatively and collaboratively and with a proven philosophy of service -Must be committed to professional growth Other Considerations: -Technology Skills Required -Must be proficient in technology use; database development, querying, word processing, spreadsheet development, using Microsoft Office to accomplish work related tasks as required -Demonstrated ability to perform internet or library research to synthesize technical and regulatory information for decision making.
