GENERAL DUTIES

The Dean, reporting to senior executive management, oversees a school, division, academic program and/or function to enhance its profile, visibility, and effectiveness.  He/she develops long- and short-range plans, and exercises management responsibility for academic program planning, faculty matters, and administration, including staffing, budgets, and facilities.  He/she fosters a high-quality environment of academic teaching, research, and intellectual achievement, and creates and strengthens partnerships within and outside the College as a strong advocate.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost and working closely with the Office of Academic Affairs staff, department chairs, and directors, the Dean will provide leadership and support for a wide-range of academic efforts that include managing the curriculum and related processes, ensuring the vitality of existing academic programs through rigorous review and assessment, advancing educational technologies, and ensuring implementation and institutionalization of major grants.

Responsibilities include the following:
- Provide leadership in advancing the curriculum to address the changing needs of our students.
- Provide leadership for the integration of career and technical education and implementation of general education courses.
- Provide leadership in the evaluation and assessment of developmental and gateway courses throughout the disciplines.
- Develop initiatives to more fully develop evening and weekend course and program offerings.
- Develop initiatives for the expansion of online course offerings and the launch of online programs, and collaborate with the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology.
- Support the College's Honors program, Learning Communities, Office for International Education & Study Abroad Programs, and pre-collegiate collaborative programs.
- Participate in the recruitment and development of faculty and staff.
- Provide oversight to the Office of Academic Affairs in participation or facilitation of events (conferences, commencement, convocation).
- Work collaboratively with the Office of Affirmative Action to ensure implementation of the College's Diversity Action Plan.
- Maintain executive oversight of the Office of Workload, Scheduling and Planning.
- Prepare reports and assume other related duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.  Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

- Ph.D. preferred
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills and an ability to work in a multicultural environment
- Demonstrated collegial style of leadership that will support and retain faculty and staff in their efforts to provide an excellent academic environment
- Demonstrated administrative managerial experience with a record of increasing responsibility in higher education
- Availability to work evening and weekend hours
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

COMPENSATION

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
