Wheelock College, located in Boston, invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.  The Dean reports directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and is a member of the College’s Institutional Leadership Team.  The Dean will provide academic, strategic planning, fiscal, and administrative leadership for five primarily undergraduate academic departments:  American Studies, the Arts, Humanities, Mathematics and Science, and Psychology and Human Development.  The Dean also oversees first year academic programming and General Education.

As the School’s chief academic and administrative officer, the Dean provides intellectual and administrative leadership to guide the School in its commitment to innovative education for diverse audiences, global and local outreach, and scholarship with impact. The Dean’s responsibilities involve institution building and creating an environment that empowers and energizes faculty and staff to grow and deliver Wheelock’s diverse academic programs in a way that honors campus values for social justice and advocacy, inspires students for excellence, and leads to high impact careers of success and significance.

The Dean’s work includes forging a shared School vision to drive academic excellence; encouraging creative scholarship and thought leadership; managing fiscal and revenue generation processes, including enrollment growth and successful external funding; recruiting and retaining faculty and staff; developing and strengthening collaborations and partnerships in support of teaching and learning across the Colleges of the Fenway consortium and with relevant external communities; promoting and advocating for the School on campus and off; contributing as a member of  the Institutional Leadership Team (ILT) to the overall good stewardship of Wheelock College; and enhancing the unique nature of and recognition for high quality programs in the Arts and Sciences. Successful experiences with enrollment management, collaboration, interdisciplinary programming, strategic planning, research and scholarship, and the capacity to work closely and collaboratively with others are at the heart of such leadership.
