Public Service Faculty Local Government Research
The Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia invites applications for a Public Service Faculty position in the Governmental Services and Research Division. The position will be available November 1, 2014, and carries rank in the public service faculty career ladder of the University. The successful candidate will have major responsibility for conducting research and providing assistance to a wide variety of local governments. Some overnight travel is required. A master’s degree in public administration or related field is required. A terminal degree such as a Ph.D. or J.D., is preferred. The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills and is expected to be able to effectively research, write, and present reports to public officials on local government topics. Experience in writing and presenting reports is highly valued. Work experience in state or local government, for a non-profit that works with government, or experience with research institutions is also valued. As the person selected for the position will spend considerable time working directly with state and local officials, both elected and appointed, it is critical that the candidate possess the desire, ability, and experience to interact in a very positive and supportive manner with these important clients of the Institute of Government. Strong communications and interpersonal skills are required as well as an appreciation for the complexities involved in working in a public setting. Compensation will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.
