Position Summary: Resident Life. University Housing is excited to invite applicants for the Resident Director position at Georgia Southern University. As an integral part of a growing department of 5,000 residents in nine residential complexes, and a vibrant Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, this position is dedicated to fostering and facilitating a community focused on student learning and success. The Resident Director will coordinate and administer all aspects of a residential curriculum in one of our diverse residential settings; train, evaluate and supervise eight to 18 student leaders, advise hall government and adjudicate conduct cases; and have responsibility for a primary departmental adjunct area. Resident Directors will instruct an extended orientation course. Opportunities may exist to manage a living/learning community. Being a 12-month, live-in position, summer work assignments may include orientation, camps/conferences, summer school housing or special projects. The Resident Director is provided a two bedroom furnished apartment and meal plan. This position is a two-year appointment with the option to appoint for additional year(s).
Minimum Education Required: Master's degree by July 1, 2014
Preferred Education: Master's Degree in Higher Education, Counseling or a related field; Graduate Assistantship or professional experience in college student housing
Minimum Experience Required: Work experience in college student housing (a higher level of education may substitute for some of the experience requirement).
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Demonstrated skills in leadership, crisis intervention, group dynamics, flexibility, and programming in a residence hall setting; effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in diverse environment; successful completion of a background investigation prior to employment
