Position Summary: This position involves research on biological control of the emerald ash borer. Primary responsibilities include developing and evaluating alternative methods of sampling, trapping, and detecting biocontrol agents in the field, and using these methods to measure natural enemy establishment and parasitism rates. The position also involves sampling hosts and ash tree stand condition to determine the impact of biocontrol on emerald ash borer populations and forest health.

The successful candidate will work with principal investigators, Drs. Therese Poland and Leah Bauer, USDA Forest Service and Department of Entomology, and Dr. Jim Miller, Department of Entomology, MSU, and with technicians, and graduate and undergraduate students in the Entomology Department and USDA Forest Service Laboratory. In addition, the candidate will interact with collaborators from USDA Agricultural Research Service and Animal Plant Health Inspection Agency.

Full time, 12 month (AN), fixed term position; appointment for one year, with reappointment contingent upon satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Support Staff: Minimum Requirements
A Ph.D. in Biology, Entomology, or Forestry. The incumbent must have a background in forest entomology and biocontrol and a strong interest and understanding of insect behavior, semiochemicals, identification, forestry, forest ecology, experimental design and statistical analysis, and excellent writing and analytical skills. The successful candidate must be self-motivated and independent with good communication skills, have the ability to work well with others, and be capable of working in the laboratory and the field.
