Position Summary: The position involves working with beef cattle in a research setting, duties to include: care of cattle such as feeding, assisting with breeding, health and research treatments, and observation related to research projects; recordkeeping of pastures and crops; seeding, fertilizing, harvesting, baling hay, mowing, building and equipment maintenance, and general farm duties. This is an off-campus position located at the Lake City Research Center in Lake City, Michigan.

Two years of satisfactory experience as a Laborer Agricultural II or an equivalent combination of training and experience; expert knowledge in maintenance of agricultural facilities; expert knowledge in the feeding and care of beef cattle; possession of a valid vehicle operator's license; frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds; this position requires knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet.

Typing Requirements (wpm):

Desired Qualifications: Experience with pasture management and cropping practices; a basic knowledge of fencing, welding, brazing, and metal fabrication; ability to operate power tools such as chain saw and drill press; possession of a valid pesticide license; knowledge of application practices, rates, and general crop spraying.

Summary of Health Risks and Physical Demands (if applicable): Duties associated with this position involve working with animals or unfixed animal tissue, driving a university vehicle that does not require a commercial driver's license but does require medical certification, wearing a respirator, spraying or mixing organophosphate or carbamate insecticides, operating a fork truck, tractor, or top-running overhead crane, and lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
