Position Summary: This position provides technical support for potato research; responsibilities include assisting with carrying out field and laboratory analyses and field management of potato as required; field work includes assisting in the management of crops, preparation of seed and plot plans for trials, collection and management of field trial data and collection of field samples; assisting in the management of operations at potato demonstration storages including maintenance, storage treatments, and tuber sampling; collection and analysis of well logger data; assisting in collection and assembly of annual research report; assisting in Web site and presentation management, including generating tables and graphs; position requires periods of overtime and in-state over-the-road travel exceeding 25K miles annually.

Support Staff: Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in ecology, horticulture, agronomy, soil science, biology, natural resources or a related field; one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a laboratory setting carrying out plant biology and soil science research; experience with statistical analysis; experience with database (such as Microsoft Access); or an equivalent combination of education and experience; possession of a Commercial Pesticide Applicators license and respirator certification.

Typing Requirements (wpm):

Desired Qualifications: Experience with Microsoft Office and SigmaPlot; demonstrated proficiency in operating, maintaining, and transporting farm equipment; familiarity with grant writing and the grant submission process; video and photography experience capturing research subject matter; experience in operating unmanned aerial vehicles used to capture plot data; ability to weld including the ability to fabricate with wood and metal; experience in the production and storage of potatoes; effective communication skills, both written and oral; good organizational skills; strong attention to detail.

Summary of Health Risks and Physical Demands (if applicable): Duties associated with this position involve driving a university vehicle that does not require a commercial driver's license but does require medical certification, wearing a respirator, spraying or mixing organophosphate or carbamate insecticides, working in noisy (above 85 decibels) areas, operating a fork truck, tractor, or top-running overhead crane, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, and climbing ladder and stairs.
