Job Summary

Under general supervision of Principal Investigator and/or Staff Research Associate responsibilities include the following: Performing surgical procedures to produce spinal cord injuries; monitoring injured animals daily and delivering proper post operative care; the histological processing of tissue using cryostat and vibrotome for sectioning; carrying out immunocytochemistry and in situ hybridization procedures; preparing stock solutions and maintaining supplies for the experiements at hand; and maintaining data records.


Salary: Range $33,846.48 - 35,830.08

Work Schedule: 8-5, M-F

Limited Appt Position, 100%

Due to the nature of the position some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Final candidate subject to background check.

Job Description
Job Essential Function 1
Percent of Time: 20%
Perform surgical procedures to produce spinal cord injuries in mice and prepare tissue for analysis.
Job Essential Function 2
Percent of Time: 40%
Monitor spinal injured animals daily and provide required care, including bladder evacuation, delivery of medications, and analgesics.
Perform behavioral studies for functional outcome measures.
Job Essential Function 3
Percent of Time: 20%
Euthanize animals at appropriate survival intervals, prepare for neurohistological and immunocytochemical analysis.
Carry out and perform immunocytochemical analysis- cyrostat and vibratome sectioning.
Job Essential Function 4
Percent of Time: 20%
Prepare solutions and maintain supplies for experiments underway.
Maintain data records
Minimum of bachelors degree in scientific field               
Willingness to work with animals (rats, mice)               
Basic or high level computer skills                        
Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
Previous laboratory experience                     
Experience with spinal cord injured animals
Experience with quantitative image analysis
